Could this be someone to watch

He was a "raw" WR from a school even smaller than GATES's ABILENE CHRISTIAN, w/good hands, very respectable size, and a 4.41/4.42 "forty". If he and GATES (or MOORE or WALLACE, for that matter) have "arrived", it makes our WRs a strength: and if any 3 of them have arrived, then we wasted at least 2 late-round draft picks trying to fill a perceived "need" which was actually no need at all--just an illusion.

I really believe that this will turn out to be the case, and that at least 2 and probably 3 have "arrived". After all, we traded B MARSHALL for "peanuts", and in a year where the WR class was incredibly good and deep, we chose NOBODY until very late.
It made no sense to ME at the time, but if we have a couple of WRs w/talent in the process of "arriving" as NFL WRs, then it makes perfect sense. It's also a further testimonial to IRELAND, who had to be behind the choices, because PARCELLS = slow motion, and would be elated w/the next ORANDE GADSEN, or that big, oversized slouch that we picked up from J'VILLE (his name escapes me), or maybe the next FRED BILETNIKOFF or RAY BERRY.

I couldn't agree more. The BJ pick in the 6th round was a horrilble waste of a pick IMO. How a guy with so little physical gifting is supposed to come in and compete with great athletes like Wallace,Moore and Pruitt I just don't get. Even Holman may give him trouble. I would have much rather seen LB Audie Cole or OL Tom Compton taken with that pick. Both of those guys are going to be pros for a long long time and I doubt BJ lasts more than the NFL average.

As far as Pruitt specifically, has he even been targeted in a regular season game??? I don't think this kid has even been given his chance yet. He looked very good to me on special teams coverage when he was active for a couple games. Looks like a big safety on the field. I know he is really really strong. He has some unbelievable squat thing. I think he has real RAC ability but we never see it if he doesn't really get the NFL game.

I do hope that you are being sarcastic...

Don't know what you are trying to say because everyone knows that BJ is a nominal athlete. I'm old and fat and I have a better vertical than BJ. 31 inches is lame for WR. The guy runs in the 4.6's and he isn't quick like Bess. Nor does he have outstanding hands like Bess.

Pruitt runs in the low 4.4's as does Moore. Wallace is almost a freak at 6'4" 225lbs. and runs in the 4.4's with an elite 1.47 10yd.

What may be even more telling is BJ's really bad shuttle numbers. They wouldn't even be good for a 260 pound DE.

I'm not being the least bit sarcastic. BJ just doesn't have the athleticism or size to get open in the NFL.

Yes there have been a few out-liars like Anqhan Bolden, but Bolden had phenomenal hands and extraordinary strength. BJ doesn't.

Not only that, BJ is expected to struggle to get separation in the NFL.

It was a wasted pick.

Pruitt's been on the practice squad for 2 seasons so he needs to step forward now. This is his chance and he needs to make the most of it. If he doesn't step up someone else will.

Wait until training camp begins to see who does what. Nobody has a clue who will flop and who will excel.

its about that time again for me to get on our young WR bandwagon. Wallace has all the tools, and was very good on special teams, just hasnt put it together. Id like Pruitt to get his chance too.

I've been to practice each of the last two years and Pruitt has always struck me as an awkwardly put together athlete who just doesn't belong. Drops stuff routinely (be they punts or passes) and just seems... awkward. Yeah, he's 6014, 205 and runs a 4.4. But the rest of his workout numbers aren't even very good. Below average vertical (31.5 inches) and broad jump (9 feet, 4 inches), mediocre shuttle (4.36) and cone (7.19).

Apparently he's a darling of the scouting department but I don't get it. I mean, I instantly saw the talent in Roberto Wallace, for example. I knew from one practice he would send Patrick Turner packing. Marlon Moore has never been a favorite of mine (too high cut, bad hands) but even he at least flashes some speed now and then. Pruitt never does anything. Ever.

putting stock in what guys do without pads on is not a smart way to go about things...the pads separate the flag football players from the pros...

Someone said the situation reminds of Anthony Armstrong. I don't agree because Armstrong actually produced. The Pruitt situation reminds me more of Brandon London than anyone else. London used to impress by beating defensive backs in one-on-one drills, and would always be talked about as someone to watch. But when it came to real field situations and reading safety leverage, he just disappeared consistently. We've heard a couple times about this great player Julius Pruitt the Dolphins have at the bottom of the receiver roster, but it never materializes and it probably never will.

wasn't it that gm davenport guy that always said watch out for julius pruitt...he's legit...i thought that was crazy talk off what i've seen

Not Davenport but actually one of the Dolphins' pro scouts who came on as a favor to Davenport and conducted a small Q&A.
