He was a "raw" WR from a school even smaller than GATES's ABILENE CHRISTIAN, w/good hands, very respectable size, and a 4.41/4.42 "forty". If he and GATES (or MOORE or WALLACE, for that matter) have "arrived", it makes our WRs a strength: and if any 3 of them have arrived, then we wasted at least 2 late-round draft picks trying to fill a perceived "need" which was actually no need at all--just an illusion.
I really believe that this will turn out to be the case, and that at least 2 and probably 3 have "arrived". After all, we traded B MARSHALL for "peanuts", and in a year where the WR class was incredibly good and deep, we chose NOBODY until very late.
It made no sense to ME at the time, but if we have a couple of WRs w/talent in the process of "arriving" as NFL WRs, then it makes perfect sense. It's also a further testimonial to IRELAND, who had to be behind the choices, because PARCELLS = slow motion, and would be elated w/the next ORANDE GADSEN, or that big, oversized slouch that we picked up from J'VILLE (his name escapes me), or maybe the next FRED BILETNIKOFF or RAY BERRY.
I couldn't agree more. The BJ pick in the 6th round was a horrilble waste of a pick IMO. How a guy with so little physical gifting is supposed to come in and compete with great athletes like Wallace,Moore and Pruitt I just don't get. Even Holman may give him trouble. I would have much rather seen LB Audie Cole or OL Tom Compton taken with that pick. Both of those guys are going to be pros for a long long time and I doubt BJ lasts more than the NFL average.
As far as Pruitt specifically, has he even been targeted in a regular season game??? I don't think this kid has even been given his chance yet. He looked very good to me on special teams coverage when he was active for a couple games. Looks like a big safety on the field. I know he is really really strong. He has some unbelievable squat thing. I think he has real RAC ability but we never see it if he doesn't really get the NFL game.
