I honestly don't know what to make of the free-lancing reports. I don't doubt that he did free-lance, but how often and how big of a problem it was I'm not sure. What I do know is if he DID free-lance, it would definitely hurt the defense, much like Byron Maxwell was hurting the secondary by supposedly free-lancing as well. Sometimes certain vets think they know best and can make an inexperienced D-coordinator look even worse. And an inexperienced D-coordinator in turn makes players feel like they DO know best. It's a vicious cycle.
Burke may be a terrible D-coordinator, but he still needs players who can respect their assignments.
There were enough weaknesses on our D that they could negate Suh and attack any of a number of places.
I'd still take Maxwell over Lippett or Tank right now, to start opposite Howard.
Well gotta hope Rawkon is a monster at middle linebacker because we are probably going to need it. I certainly hope there is a backup plan for Rawkon also cause we are looking at a rookie who is has a bad knee that many on this site expect a whole lot of performance out of.
That line of thinking has undeniable merit though.I don't like the line of reasoning that because the defense was bad with him here, they won't lose anything from his departure.
They're absolutely going to miss him.
Throw in the whole defensive philosophy of needing to play with a lead yet falling behind more often than not...

It's been the same for years now, whether it's Philbin's offense and Coyle's defense or Gase's offense and Joseph or Burke's defense. Who in their right mind wants a defense built to play with a lead when their offense usually can't score until nearly half-time and they're down 2 or 3 scores? I know many fans love Gase, but his offense has been sluggish in the beginning of games just like Philbin's offense.
