Cowboys save $5.5 million by releasing C Andre Gurod

yeah, making guys switch positions on the line this late is not ideal, but you gotta do what you gotta do... guys will pick it up. keep it simple for the rookie at first, but they'll settle in after a couple games. its a far better situation in the long run and its a long season.

Ireland's phone call to Gurode.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He6Kcqy14HE

Hey Andre, it's me, just calling to check in, I've been kinda busy lately, paperwork and stuff like that...damnit. Hey Andre, it's me, uh, listen, um, probably going to be in the neighborhood a little bit later, uh, do you know if you want to get together for frozen yogurt sometime, or maybe even a whole meal of food, if that would be agreeable......stupid.... Hey Andre, it's Jeff Ireland...uh....

On a serious note, If Gurode wants anywhere close to 5.5 mil, then we're not signing him. We've got 1 mil tied up in Columbo and can't afford to sign the dude unless we cut some salary somewhere else or trade Merling or Starks.

I don't know how much cheaper you are getting a 5 time Pro Bowler still young enough to be effective. If he is healthy, 5.5 million isn't bad at all.

Sounds as if our OL prayers may have been answered. If we dont get him, this FO better make it a WELL known fact as to why. I dont think I can handle anymore speculation on why we 'whiffed' on another big name FA.

Gurode doesn't have to clear waivers. He is a 10 year veteran to automatically become a free agent.

Ok, thanks for that. I inquired because I remember Randy Moss having to clear waivers in the middle of the season last year . . . but I"m bad with that stuff and knowing how it fully works.

Don't matter, last time I checked we're only 1 mil under the cap. A 5.5 mil free agent signing would put us over and we'd have to do some serious salary shedding.

you can get gurode considering he's 33 for less than $5.5 mil...i would think...maybe a 2 year $6 mil deal 2nd year not guaranteed or something like that ...his age will play against him in bidding but if anyone could use him its us

full steam ahead jeff ireland

and if max starks is available i'd be calling him about coming in to see what he's got left at tackle also...we need help and we need help ASAP

cut someone...gurodes not gonna break the bank at this stage...we could afford him easy by cutting some dead weight or a veteran who's got nothing left

Wow just 1 million under? We may need some clarifiction on that, I could of sworn we still had like 8 million or so left.

They'll cut Carey if they have to, though I would think they would wanna look at him at RT first.

When we needed a QB in 08, Pennington fell into our laps. This year, we need a strong interior lineman to solidify our line, and Gurode comes free. If our line gets fixed, we don't have a glaring weakness on either side of the ball. This could be the piece that pushes us from middle-of-the-road to playoff contender, assuming it pushes Columbo off the field. I see no reason not to do this...

I can't believe people seriously think Sparano would dare move Pouncey away from center. Get real lol.

I was pretty sure it was around 7-8 mil also

he probably won't...he's too bullheaded...hell i can't believe incogs the left guard and colombos the right tackle...its bullheadedness at its finest

When was the last time you checked? NFL.com's Jason La Confora has Miami at almost $5 million under the cap as of August 16.

One key point...As a reminder, teams are not mandated to reach any cap level this season. Beginning in 2013, teams must spend 89 percent of the cap or be subject to penalties.

IF you get Gurode then Carey would have to move to RT. If he doesn't start then he probably would get cut. I can't remember - was his salary after pay cut guaranteed? If not then he pays for some of Gurode. This OL HAS to be upgraded!! It is way below average which is very sad.

I figured more aroud 3 years and 13 million . . . He's just 32, he isn't in the grave yet

Yea but I agree, I normally wouldn't panic on ths OLine . . . but all the focus on Henne during the offseason, and the thing that hurt us the most last year is honestly the same thing hurting us now . . . the entire Oline to the right of Jake Long. You already decided to stick it out with Chad hoping a system change would help him . . . you can't stick it out with this oline looking like it looks now.

Long-Pouncey-Gurode-Incognito-(Carey/Murtha/Garner)

You can get away with that OLine.
