DAVIE, Fla. -- One of the Miami Dolphins creating the most buzz during organized team activities is defensive end Dion Jordan. The 2013 No. 3 overall pick played sparingly last season but still has a lot of potential to develop into a star player for Miami.

Jordan
Jordan showed up to Dolphins camp noticeably bigger this spring. Jordan hit the weight room hard this offseason and bulked up to 265 pounds, which is about 17 pounds heavier than last year around this time. Jordan is turning a lot of heads with his increased strength while still maintaining his athleticism.

Here was Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle's thoughts on his second-year defensive end:
"Oh yeah, but we have a different Dion (Jordan) as well. The thing was last year, we came very close in the preseason to have to make a decision whether or not we were going to basically redshirt Dion or know that we were going to get limited snaps from him. All of the talk in the offseason that centered around, ‘Well, he wasn’t utilized, he didn’t do that.’ Well, honestly, we knew going into the year that he had not had the offseason, that he was coming off of an injury and would it be in the best interest of our team to have him, even for limited snaps, we made that decision. Certainly, Dion wished he had a bigger rookie season and so do we, but we have great expectations for Dion Jordan coming into this year. You cannot have enough great pass-rushers and, we feel that with Dion at full speed, we have a prime-time player that’s going to explode this year.”

Good he needs to and I think he could the only question holding me back from the same prediction is we have vernon and wake in front of him. How many snaps will jordan get?

This makes me so happy! Can't wait to see things get crazy on that defensive line!

With JT as a personal tutor, a coach who believes in you, and teammates that let you focus on one thing ... the table is set.

Sent from my phone, so please forgive any typos.

Love the pass rush we're putting on the field this year. Jordan, Wake, Vernon, Starks, Odrick, Misi

Just don't see how Jordan gets many more snaps with both DE spots taken. Seems strange that we have a weakness at LB, his more natural position appears to be OLB (albeit a 3-4 OLB) and at least we could get him on the field if he was an OLB and yet no, the powers that be insist that he be a DE. Maybe the plan is for Jordan to take Wake's spot when Wake slows down. Time will tell I guess.

i don't know if it's correct, but i read that there are about 2200 snaps for defensive ends in a season. so there is an opportunity for 700+ snaps for Dion (it will probably be less for jordan, vernon and wake, because of derrick shelby and others taking some snaps to give guys a rest).

I believe we all can agree the DL is going to be awesome to watch this year.

I am glad Coyle is excited, but what did you expect him to say? That the kid stunk up the joint in his first season? The fact of the matter is that Jordan is still nothing but unfulfilled potential. Who is he going to take snaps from? Cam Wake? Olivier Jordan? I am absolutely certain that neither of these two players are going to surrender that playing time voluntarily. Let's show a little realism here. Let's see what the kid can actually do once he puts on pads in pre-season.

I am hoping we have a D-Line this year like the Giants had when they won Super Bowl XLII. So aggressive and a rotation that doesn't miss a beat.

People forget Cameron Wake is the same age as Jared Allen and one year older than DeMarcus Ware. It won't be long before Wake will be getting fewer snaps than Oliver Vernon or Dion Jordan.

I like the fact that they're believing that Jordan can play more snaps this year. Of course they should... for what they gave to get him! Wake is in his 30's and having him take less snaps this year will be something that will benefit him. We all remember what the NY Giants did with a versatile DE rotation.

If you listen to the entire Coyle interview he said they considered red shirting Jordan last year which I take meant IR due to his shoulder. He could not even lift in the weight room. Hopefully with the added weight at 265 and a strong training camp he can really be a factor this season.

Several things....

How well can he improve against the run, can he anchor, squeeze and have an impact when he is not rushing the passer

How well will his pass rush improve, will he develop good hand movement, how well can he bend, will he learn to set up the lineman...

Finally, how "violent" can he be at the point of attack...both Vernon and Wake (and all good pass rushers) are violent, controlled, but violent....

I will believe it when I see it.. But I really hope he does well.
