Curious as to why guys want to tank

If they tank, this front office won't be there.

Tanking and rebuilding and trusting the process sells tickets and hope. But that’s all it does. Many franchises have risen, fallen, and risen out of the ashes again since the Dolphins put anything on the field resembling sustainable success, if even for a few years. Even blind squirrel organizations have at least been serious contenders for a season or two because they paired the right quarterback with the right coach on top of a decent foundation. The only times in the last 24 years the Dolphins were even remotely close to breaking down the door for a season or two was probably 2000-02, 2008, 2016, and 2022-23. I’m not talking about building dynasties. The Chiefs took that mantle from the Patriots. Even a season with dumb luck playoff success eludes the Dolphins.

I don't really want to tank, but I do want to change who's leading this organization. I just have no confidence in Grier and McDaniel. They get the rest of this season to prove the quality of their work. Heck, they can even have next year too. I won't be watching. It's going to take some time and GM wizardry to undo the damage.

They've beaten two of the worst teams in the league and then gotten completely crushed last week. They're a one year wonder until proven otherwise.

You specifically asked which of those teams among them are contenders now, verbatim your words.

The Houston Texans ARE contenders in the here and now. You can unsuccessfully try to spin and deflect that any which way that you want until your blue in the face.

They found their architect in Nick Caserio, head coach in DeMeco Ryans, and scored on their franchise QB in C.J. Stroud. They hit on that integral trifecta, whether you attribute it to dumb luck or shrewd management in very little time. That’s the reality of the situation.

The Texans also have the luxury of playing in one of the worst divisions in the NFL, so they will be shoe-in contenders for the foreseeable future. If you were to be in the Texans position or the Dolphins position as of today, which one would you prefer? No brainer.

You don’t know what in the hell you’re talking and it’s rather obvious.

Whether Houston is any good I’ll leave to debate. What the Dolphins are is a dumpster fire, just trying to find a nice way to phrase it. You may not want a tank/rebuild but that is what’s going to happen. This is a weak team with no QB and a coach on mushrooms. The tank isn’t a choice, it’s reality.

Do you really think the current FO would get it right?

We’ve done this before. Recently. Overhaul.

And yet here we are. No better, likely worse.

Nah. So long as our FO remains intact, we’re hosed.

But I have to admit I was surprised when Flores got axed. Didn’t see that coming.

Maybe…..
We don’t need to tank. We just need a healthy qb. Tua is good and I’m a big fan but he’s too fragile and we need to trade up for a qb with good size and a big arm. We also need to go get a good physical guard. We have a lot of talent. The front office/coaching staff just continuously ignores the obvious holes.

If the organization makes the decision to move off Tua in March 2025, before triggering his contract’s guaranteed on 2026, then it makes to eat the dead cap hit next season and turn over the oldest roster in the NFL.

Firing Grier AND McDaniel would be first two steps in any tanking proposal I’d support.
Agree. They both have to go, but there will be no need to "sell" any player off in order to tank. This team and coaching staff flat out suck as is. The tanking (losses) will happen regardless. If you look at the schedule, there just aren't many wins there.

I know Earl was proven by the time he came in to back up Griese, but maybe Huntley can magically rise to the occasion ala Malik Willis; I'd be happy if he only lost 4 more games.. we'd still be in play maybe.. if the Jets falter.

I don’t want to tank. But we do need to draft well and address the trenches on both sides of the ball as a focus and priority. McDaniel should consider giving up play calling. The culture is a bit loosey goosey with a lack of accountability. Defense is promising. We should draft a Qb next year in the first 3 rounds and make sure we have a solid veteran backup assuming Tua comes back which I believe he will, not sure how long his career will be. I’m pissed at him for being so careless, it’s not like he couldn’t have avoided this one.

Cam ward sucks, another overhyped running qb that throws floaters late and inaccurately, its either Ewers or Carson Beck
Really? Hmmmm ok. Guy is constantly working, learning, and they said his qb IQ is off the charts. He was successful at Washington, he’s successful here, and he’s only gonna get better. People like you are what drives him
