This is the biggest single reason why Ireland deserved to be fired. He had fail after fail after fail in Free Agency and the Draft. Jake Long and Pouncey were the sole decent O-line players he drafted and Jake jumped ship at the first opportunity.
Every GM will make some mistakes but for the money and draft picks that were squandered nearly every year on the O-line, he should have been embarrassed, but that didn't come with his personality.
Some other positions, like DBs, Ireland was pretty good at finding some acorns who exceeded expectations. But he (or they, if you count Big Tuna's role) were hopeless at finding and developing O-line players. Incognito was probably the best but he had other issues.

The only time we seem to hit is when we use freakishly high picks. Apparently, we're only capable of putting out a campfire with a firetruck. Incapable of developing talent and it continues to set this team back as we use picks that should be used on playmakers.

Hell, even overpaying FAs hasn't panned out. Hopefully, Albert changed that. Just hoping his back doesn't take him the way of Grove and Smiley.
