Dallas Thomas?

I understand what you are saying, but if his talent was so impressive, a practice squad player wouldn't have been promoted on short notice to start over him. Every potential has its learning curve, but its not as if the main task of an offensive lineman on every play isn't to physically move or block the player in front of him. This is something you either can or can't do.

sure he would have. if a practice squad player was more ready to step in and play today, for whatever reason, the coaching staff should make that call. it doesn't mean the practice squad player has more talent than thomas, or that thomas is a bust, it just means wait and see.

Today a practice squad player listed as a center played over him. What is wrong with this guy? He must really suck if they chose to go with a practice squad player over him. Why even keep Thomas if they don't even feel comfortable about putting him into the game

Good point, right now Thomas is looking like a bum.......he needs to play

I don't fault the staff for starting a guy that they perceived as more capable of playing well, and it worked out well enough for us. That doesn't mean that the player being passed over is above being criticized.

A couple of things:

1. He's not a great player. He has decent athletic ability but he's no super-athletic OL.

2. Despite the depth in this past draft and the overall comparative amount of OL talent, it wasn't a great draft and none of the OL have really stepped in and done well. Even the OL picked in the top 10 haven't been show-stoppers ... they've just been solid.

I was never a Dallas Thomas fan ... and was highly skeptical and disappointed by the pick. But, it often takes a while for OL to grow into the NFL. Clearly this guy isn't ready. Healthy or not, he doesn't show production. Ultimately, he is like a lesser-talented Yeatman that we drafted with our only offensive pick in the first 3 rounds from a draft that we entered with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. It's not really any wonder that our offense has struggled. We lost our best OL in Jake Long, our best blocking TE who was also a 2-way threat that didn't tip off the defense run/pass in Fasano, and our top 2 TD producers (Bush and Fasano). Sure, we brought in Wallace, Gibson and Keller, but only Wallace remains healthy and he hasn't developed a chemistry with Tannehill yet.

So yeah, Dallas Thomas isn't the answer. But, I expect to get 2-4 OL in next year's draft.

What I find frustrating is the fact that Ireland brought in several FA o-linemen this year with game day experience, yet the staff had to promote Brenner from the practice squad to start today. This isn't a knock on Brenner as I assume he played well, but it clearly shows that Ireland is not capable of evaluating o-linemen.

There are things to fault Ireland for, but the OL that was fielded today was missing three starters from the start of the season and a key backup. There isn't going to be much way to avoid having to scrap to find some players when facing the adversity we have there.

I was referring to the fact that the additional Free Agent linemen signed by Ireland in the off-season and preseason to compete for a starting spot (or at least be quality depth) were passed over for a practice squad player. I understand that they may not have been immediate starting material, but as "veterans", they should have been ready to step into the line-up ahead of a PS guy. There are 3 missing starters, yet not one of the added FA linemen can play? For the record, I can't even remember their names... Watkins is one, I think, and I believe that there are at least 2 more. This just proves that Ireland put no effort into upgrading the o-line.

i agree. dallas thomas deserves criticism, as does his selection. i was responding to the "why hasn't he been cut," and "he's a total bust" posts.

He's probably on the Richie Incognito "toughen up" list.

All I know is, it's going to rain corn feds in Miami next off season.

Ireland drafted alot of damaged goods this time. Jordon, the 2 dbs, Thomas etc. That's at least 4 draft choices coming off rather serious injuries. In FA we did much of the same:Grimes, ( one guy who's worked out) Keller, Lance Louis, no one could have seen the Brandon Gibson injury, really a shame, the guy was becoming a star. I'd guess that it's just as easy to find healthy guys and probably much smarter.

wasn't paul soliai a bust is first 2 or 3 seasons ??? why didnt we cut him then ??? thank god we didn't right ???

I find it funny that the group of guy with the least exposure to our ol coaches (the unit that played VS San Diego) showed more promise that the unit that played in preseason and the first 8 or 9 games.

dallas thomas is a tackle more then a guard hence he got passed over by the practice squad guy that was playing great

I think we need to give Dallas a bit of time to develop, and certainly there is nothing wrong or unusual about that. Our oline will be hugely different next year, probably just Pouncey out of the starters will remain with Jerry a possibility. Huge opportunity for Dallas, Brenner and whoever else we have coming through, I imagine we will be picking up more players that suit the zone blocking scheme.
