Saban and Linehan chose Garrett because Marino isn't out looking for a coaching position. I can't believe you think someone like Jason Garrett would be a better QB coach than the best QB of all time.

what makes you think that? where did you see anything about Saban preferring Marino to Coach Garrett?

I never said that he preferred Marino. Where do you see anything about Marino wanting to be a QB coach? You don't. Which is why I'm saying Marino wasn't an option for our QB coach so you can't say that Saban and Linehan(who had nothing to do with it) made the right choice. What I was saying is if Marino wanted to be a QB coach, he would be better then Garrett.

Back to the topic. The reason Dan said he didn't want to do the job was he didn't have the time. He wouldn't be able to spend time with his family as much as he wanted to. Who knows if that was the truth or not.

I dont think Dan is cut out to be a coach. Hes one of those guys who gets frustrated I think when players dont see the game his way.

That and I think it would be a waste of his time to work with a scrub like AJ

Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach.

Usually, those people that are at the top of their field make very poor teachers. They simply can't relate to people that have to work so hard to do something that came so naturally to them.
On the other hand, those people that did OK in their field, but were never spectacular, usually make very good teachers. They are better at relating to their students since they had to study/practice their a$$es off too, and probably had to be taught how to overcome some of the same obstacles their students are facing.

I'd love to see Marino return to the Phins in some capacity...perhaps even QBs coach if thats what he wants.
But just because he was one of the best ever to play the game doesnt necessarily mean he would be any good teaching it.

Touche- Well put

Coaching and most front office jobs are much more than 40+ hour weeks.....Dan makes around $1.2 Mill doing the CBS pre-game show and this does not take a lot of time, and allows Dan to spend time with his wife and all his kids...I doubt Dan would be coming back to the Dolphins anytime soon.

Who says that Dan would get fustrated so easy... assumptions.

Because he was a hot-head on the field.

Dan was just intense!!! That's what made him the best QB EVER.

You'd be a hot head on the field too if you had no running game and no defense.

no way, make your argument sir ! a man who has never even coached his kids quarterbacks and he is now better than the choice of Saban and Linehan? cmon Byroan, use your head not your homer.
Actually, I've met one of his kids (Daniel). He doesn't have the slightest interest in football and hates when anyone brings up his dad. If Dan weren't his dad, he'd have never heard of him.

He just had a intense personality on the field, I didn't mean it in a offensive way, I like that aspect of him. We need the kinda guy who will get in some faces on our team, it raises the level of everyone on the field.

i think Dan would accept the role as a QB coach if offered. That is a legit position in the organization. head of football operations or whatever position we hired him for last season was not. I think he would like to get into coaching.

- Dude was a red a**. He got more out of teammates because of it too. If your great , you can get away with it. Off the field , it is said , that he was engaging with everyone.
