Dan was not known for being a genius at deciphering defenses. He had an enormous gift finding a "spot".

You dont pass for over 60,000 yards and 400+ TDs by not being able to read a defense at a high level. Thats the dumbest thing Ive seen on this board yet.

And wouldnt finding an open spot be the same thing as reading a defense?

He won't be in Dolphins management for a while, he won't coach QB's, why would he give up his CBS/HBO gig??

Saban and Linehan chose Garrett because Marino isn't out looking for a coaching position. I can't believe you think someone like Jason Garrett would be a better QB coach than the best QB of all time.

i dont know why you would assume that he'd be a good coach. in fact, in all sports the best players are the worst coaches and the marginal players make better ones. Phil Jackson is a better coach then Magic Johnson. Dan Reeves was successful as both, but its rare.

Strangley, career backups can make great coaches. Mainly because you sit and soak up everything the coaches say, and you can ponder and analyze and memorize while you are on the bench. I know this from being a career varsity basketball scrub.
