Daniel Thomas SUCKS

---------- Post added at 08:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 PM ----------

This Dude should have been out of the NFL a year ago, but he plays for us. That explains it. If you think Daniel Thomas has any upside or potential, you do not understand the NFL or winning. But that may explain the Dolphins, average everywhere...

Double Thumbs Up

I think he's better than given credit for by a lot of fans. Certainly Thomas is better than Gillispee by quite a margin.

Daniel Thomas' crime is not being a guy who can make 3 guys miss in the backfield how Reggie Bush would. He needs at least a little crease to run through. He was definitely the victim of horrible blocking and it seemed reflect poorly on him in the perceptions of fans. Not this fan. I like his game but he does need to be able to block a little better. He was catching the ball really well too.

Thomas' crime is there are for typical types of running backs: fast, elusive, powerful and crafty. Thomas doesn't really fit any of those groups, he doesn't have a trait that you can say "yes I know he has this fault but he's xxxxxxxx."

I know I'm a dinosaur in my way of thinking, but in my mind a player or team doesn't have to be the best in the league or even in contention for a title or elite player status for me to root for them. In fact most of the players I really root the hardest for are the Thomas and Egnew type player that everybody else is always kicking. I like when a player comes through despite all the crap they take.

When I watch Hoosiers I get more joy out of seeing Ollie knock down his game winning free throw than I do from watch Jimmy hit the championship winning shot at the end of the movie.

Not only am I a fan and root for all the players wearing the uniform, I also tend to remain a fan after they leave... such as Ted Ginn. I always root for Ginn to play well and have a good game when he's not playing the Dolphins of course.

(I removed my soapbox tangent)

So its fine that the Dolphins arent competing for a championship. Again, im totally shocked that there are those on here who have that sentiment. Shocked. Would have never guessed that.

I guess im just not a "real" fan. I. Want. To. Win. Period. I want Superbowl rings and Superbowl trophies and Superbowl parades in South Florida. And if there are players on this team that are hurting that effort, then they need to get the **** out. This team is bigger than Michael Egnew, Daniel Thomas, and Ted Ginn's family.

But thats just how i feel. Obviously the better alternative is to just keep bad players and accept losing because...well, they have a Dolphin logo on their helmet and it looks real cool and its real fun rooting for the underdog to make it! And if the underdog gets curb stomped 9 games of the season, then gosh darn it, at least you have 7 wins to feel real swell about.

Diane Thomas runs tall without power. For him to average 5.2 yards per carry means he probably got carries in garbage time.
In a game when it really counts for him to make a play, when the other team knows that we are running the ball. He is stopped cold.
I do not like his style or production. The team should make upgrading that position a priority.

If the only time you can enjoy your team is when they're contending for titles you're a fair weather fan in my book. Don't take that as an attack, I know few people think that way anymore and I'm not normal.

There are some people here who spend Sunday focusing only on the things they don't like about the game or team... I tend to focus on what I liked. I don't think one is right or wrong, just a different approach to life.

Spesh to show you how sick I am, I would rather have a 10-6 team that lost early in the playoffs that I enjoyed than a team that goes to the Super Bowl every year but I didn't enjoy as much. For example I wouldn't trade my Marino era memories for the Bills Jim Kelly era.

By all means, categorize me as you will. Having seen other examples of what you consider acceptable, your not going to see me fret over it.

Though i do find it absolutely hilarious that your willing to judge the quality of a fan but not the quality of the players on the team you supposedly care just so very much about(!!!). Perhaps if i occasionally wore a numbered jersey while missing a bunch of tackles i would be much more tolerable?

Sorry you're taking what I said as an attack or personal. Wasn't the intention. As I said earlier I'm the abnormal one not you.

This doesn't make any sense. "He probably got carries in garbage time"

Garbage time would be when the Dolphins are up by a decent (21 pts +) or down by a decent amount.

If you look at both scenarios:

A) If they are up a decent amount. The defense would know they are running it most of the time and would do everything they can to STOP the runs
B) If they are down a decent amount. They won't be running, rather passing the ball most downs.

So either way the garbage time theory doesn't work in your favor here.

I bet their is a DIANE out there who can run harder then this Dude. When asked to sum up Diane Thomas running style, you nailed it. He runs tall, without power, thats why every time he is tackled he falls backward instead of forward. Why do people want this lady on their team. Don't you want the Dolphins to be better? This Dude is not the answer in the backfield.

I agree with he runs too tall...he needs to run lower. We need to just move on from him to be honest. Fact of the matter is he's just not good. He really needs tonprove himself this training camp or I don't see him making this roster, Jeff Ireland isn't here anymore...

My "theory" was hypothetical. I would like to see a break down of the 10 carry games so we can get a sense of his "dominance". Chances are that Miller was gashing the opponent as well.
That production is not a testament to Diane's talent, but more likely that the opponent had a poor run defense.
I have seen enough of Thomas. He cannot make a crucial 1 yard run when the game depends on it, or seal the game with a game changing play.
He is below average and there are plenty of backs walking the street that could fill his shoes.
Again, I hope the team takes a chance on a new guy with greater upside and doesn't keep him around simply because he knows the system better.

He averaged 5.2 yds per carry last year in games where he got 10+ carries. He had some average runs and was ineffective a lot last year, not being able to get thru some horrendous blocking, but I though there were a lot of quality runs in there as well. Im really hoping he beats the odds this year and takes a step forward.

He only had four games with 10+ carries and in one of them he had a 55 yard run. That's out of the 260 yards you're talking about. Now if you want to make a study of his entire career when he gets 10+ carries go ahead, but right now this thread reminds me of that scene in Mr. Baseball where Tom Selleck is saying he shouldn't get cut because he led his team in ninth inning doubles in the month of August.
