Dave's Record Saves Him??
Everybody is talking about how Dave's record with the Dolphins, is enough to keep him as a coach. Well lets look at his Chicago Record. 40-56. This team had a lot less talent than Miami did when he got there, and this team still suffered the same symtoms throughout his coaching career there. They had two better seasons, then gradually got worse every year. Same in Miami. The only difference here is, Dave started out a lot higher on the mountain than he did in Chicago. He rode the Jimmy train his first two years here, then they went downhill, gradually..
History repeats itself again
Dallas is another example. Look what happened after Jimmy left there. Even Barry Switzer could ride that team, and get to the Superbowl. But what happened after that, eventually they got worse, and then they got terrible. Wayne needs to learn from the mistakes of the Dallas Cowboys.
Maybe Dave isnt such a bad coach, but he doesnt have what it takes to be a leader, or a character to set an example with.
Ive always thought that the Dolphins looked like a team that plays "just good enough." They beat all the mediocre teams, and lose the 'Big' games. They play at the same average level every week, and beat all the average and below average teams. Its like the guy at work that we all know, that does 'just enough' to keep his job. He never goes the extra mile, or switches his day off with your day off, just because. But he comes in on time, and leaves on time and basically just does his job, yet doesnt want to learn anything new. You cant fire someone like that right??
If the goal of your franchise is to be 'Okay,' that yeah, dave is your guy. But, if you want to be great, than he isnt.
Its a tough decision to make, but ask yourself this..
Do you think the Dolphins can get better with Dave at the wheels??
Hell No.
And that should be enough.
