David Cornwell’s statement regarding Jonathan Martin

Just playing devils advocate what if he never told management and kept it all to his self. How does who or if he told have any bearing on your assessment of what was done to him was right or wrong. Is it simply a matter of not believing him?

I keep hearing the idea that this is a money grab, can anyone recall any athlete in any sport doing something remotely close, i.e. a money grab. Its a plot point out of a really bad movie.

because he has a responsibility to report it, if he didn't and is trying to burn the entire organization because he didn't have the gall to speak up in the first place then personally I don't have much sympathy, ALL things being considered from what I've heard thus far.

Ive heard dudes casually talking about trading wives for a weekend and wondering what the other wife would be like, in graphic detail. Nobody was tied to an anchor and thrown overboard.

Fair enough, I stand corrected. These where your friends and co-workers using similar language about each others wives?

Well, obviously. But this didnt happen between random people in a McDonalds. The situations arent remotely similar.

This was in response to someone saying people can say whatever they want to anybody and people if offended have no right to do anything about it.
Not sure where you felt I was comparing the situations because I wasnt. Someone was under the false impression that freedom of speech means you can say anything you want with no consequences whether others are offended or not.
There are expectations of society and laws and I was pointing that out.
Please show me where I compared the situations. I was giving an example that all speech is not protected.
Hate speech is specifically outlined in US law.

Because if he had said something to management, they almost certainly would have put a stop to it.

Joe Philbin, the guy who curbed the use of f-bombs at the facility, suspended Incognito as soon as he was presented the voicemail. You think he wouldn't have done something if it was presented to him previously?

And if it comes out that he FLAT LIED and it WAS presented to him before? Then Joe is TOAST. But I highly doubt Joe would lie emphatically, repeatedly on that point. And if he did, Martin's camp would have called him out already, IMO.

You forgot to add - Joe Philbin, the guy that visited you in the hospital..

Martin is such a bitch.

No coach in the league would've sat by if he went to them with something like this.

I'm waiting to see what Al Sharpton has to say about it first:chuckle:

Actually freedom of speech does not apply to be able to say anything you like. Hate speech is not protected.
If you think there is no right for people to not be offended then just walk into any mcdonalds and start talking about some biracial person and telling them you are goin to deficate on thier mother.
Im pretty sure you will be arrested and charged with a hate crime and possibly more.

I don't think the manager at McDonalds is allowed to slap an employees behind, do you take issue with that double standard as well?

He never told anybody what was going on, that's my problem with Martin he just left and now this **** comes out he could have stopped and he didn't he blew up when he got demoted.

We don't know that. I mean, look at it from Martin's perspective, and I imagine his lawyers would paint it this way: look at how the Dolphins players reacted on Wednesday. Look at how they stuck up for a racist bully. They clearly don't like Martin and nobody who differs with the party line is going to feel comfortable speaking up, just as Martin himself didn't feel comfortable speaking up in that environment.

I'm not sure I buy it, personally. But it's not an unreasonable line of argument.

Well thanks, Ophra ! Wait I should call Dr. Phill and work out my feelings...

See the Consitutuion doesn't gurarntee your right NOT to be offened. And please tell me the differnce between a "hate crime" and a "crime " ? Is there a "love " crime ?

Dude I like you but stop being ignorant....

Im not being ignorant but offensive speech is regulated cpeople like it or not.
You are in the air force or were can you say whatever you want wherever you want.
How many times at a BX have you but your lip because you know its a family friendly zone and you could get in trouble for that.
Any US Soldier that is stupid enough to expose themselves jokinglyngly in voicemails or texts is just setting themselves up for trouble

I completely agree with you on Philbin, I think he may have to go (sadly). I however keep hearing animosity towards Martin because he didn't tell or because he waited so long. I just don't get how that has any bearing on our (fandom) assessment on whether what was done to him was right or wrong (harassment) and that somehow it calls into question his motives (money grab).

Funny you bring that up. Im pretty sure if an NFL player did not want to be slapped on the behind he could file a complaint. As a soldier I have to be pretty careful what I do.
ALso roy I never compared MCDonalds to the NFL I was talking about free speech and the misnomer that you can say whatever youl like.

Im also confused what double standard are you referring to.

Martin admitted he never told Joe Philbin or anyone else about his feelings on this.

Joe basically came out and straight up said that Martin never filed a complaint against any player for anything like that. You know that the Dolphins lawyered up before Joe made that statement and that there's no way he makes that statement if it's a lie. And that it woulda been called out already even if he had somehow been that stupid. That's one fact in this I don't think anyone should question at this point, IMO.

Martin's sources even confirmed to ESPN that Martin didn't tell Philbin about this...

Oh wow. I must have missed that in all of the other info drips. Jeez.

I definitely question his motives even if I still think Richie is a dumb *******. We can have it both ways.

If you look at this situation and Martin's actions, and honestly for a second believe he still wants to play football, wow. These are not the actions of a man who wants to play football. There isn't a locker room in the United States OR Canada that would welcome him right now.

Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck might issue some statements in support of him, but I'll bet you all of my vCash () that neither San Francisco nor Indy touches this guy with a ten foot pole.
