David Cornwell’s statement regarding Jonathan Martin

I do agree with a lot of what you said. I don't think the 3% statistic shows that he is not looking for a payday. The drastic minority of that figure shows, at least to me, that lawsuits are not the normal response for a bullied person. That small of a figure could suggest that the 3% who do file are those that have an alterior motive or are "sue happy." I think all the stat shows is that bullied individuals in general are not sue happy but I don't think much can be known about the intentions of the 3% who pursue lawsuits.

I believe you are 100% correct. We can't know the 3%'s motives, however if we put together a bullet list of say 10 reasons why we think he is doing this, in my opinion based on the stats picking "payday" should be a low choice, whereas (I am generalizing) I see it as the first choice very often.

Right. My only point was that it shouldn't be expected for him to take bullying or harassment without responding in any way. Hell, even the general population, let alone professional football players, protests more often than not at least in some way.

Thanks for your response, I think I understand your position and you mine, I better stop, I have a tendency to keep parsing minutiae!

Edited: Damn spelling.

I see your point here. Truth be told at this point I can't put my finger on what his motive is. I do believe Martin or at least his team/lawyers have some sort of agenda, but I can't say what it entails.

why not release them I wonder, Martin aired some that he had. airing Martin's would squash it right now

Because Richie is going about it the right way. Martins people are trying this case in the court of public opinion.

This is exactly why judges put gag orders on evidence during trials. People form biased opinions and convict people without all the information. We all do it.

It's also the case that the overwhelming minority has the financial motive Martin does, whereby even just his base salary is a high figure in comparison to that of the general population.

He may not be angling for a lawsuit, per se, but the receipt of his base salary alone may motivate him to try the team in the court of the public opinion, at the very least.

For the vast majority of the population, 1) a lawsuit would likely be viewed as frivolous, 2) public opinion doesn't apply, because the general public neither knows nor cares about the average Joe, and 3) the receipt of one's base salary alone is less of a motive.

Martin is in a rather unique position to apply pressure here, and notice that it's working. He's still being paid as we speak.

Saying boyfriend would be quite a manner of interpretation that wouldnt hold much weight. I never meant it as a homosexual slur because I dont think being a homosexul is something to be slighted for.

If he thought Dawn Aponte was the 2nd coming, would you refer to her as "his girlfriend"? :3w:
