The more i look at the Garrard signing the the more excited i get about what Philbin and Sherman may be able to do with this guy. This guy was in the pro bowl just 2 seasons ago but didn't play last year......recovering from surgery. By all accounts he is now fully healthy and ready to go. He has a strong arm and can make all the throws, has real good mobility, good feet, good pocket awareness, decent size, and excellent leadership qualities from what I've read. On top of all that he has a ton of game experience and he's already played in a variation of the west coast offense.

I like Matt Moore and i think he did a good job for us last year but Garrard has some advantages over him in some key areas.

1. Stronger arm than Matt Moore with better accuracy in the short to medium areas. They are fairly even with the long ball........Moore may be a little better there but it's close.
2. More mobile and a better runner than Matt Moore.
3. Much more starting experience than Matt Moore.
4. Already has experience in a west coast type offense whereas Matt has never run it before.
5. Played in a pro bowl. Only very good QB's play in pro bowls.

Now I'm not saying that Garrard is the long term answer for us........obviously he's not, but neither is Matt Moore. What I'm saying is that he has a very good chance to win the starting job for us this year and will provide good experience for the rookie QB we draft to learn from. If Garrard is at the top of his game he could be a very good stop gap for a year or two, maybe longer or until our young guy is ready to go and can beat him out for the job. If we add some firepower at the skill positions and fortify the offensive line we could very well be looking at a post season berth.

Here's a link to a highlight video of his 2010 season. There are a lot of things to like about this guy when watching this video.

Cheers :)

training camp fodder wont make the squad

Yea in his last full season he made the Pro Bowl...only on FinHeaven would people whine about a solid cheap FA signing like that

In the end, I don't really believe he will be the starter. The Dolphins may have told him he will compete, but unless Moore takes a MAJOR step backwards, he will be backing him up. If he does manage to beat Moore out, more power to him.

Oh, very insightful post. Is this what your all seeing eye is telling you?

This guy can play when he's healthy and he has some talent. To call him training camp fodder and saying that he won't make the squad before even seeing him play is foolishness.

Oh the closed mindedness of some people........It's laughable

Gerrard has the talent to be a top ten QB when healthy. His main advantage over Moore is a familiarity with the WCO. Moore had better be hard at work with Philbin.

I doubt Gerrard even makes the team. We are clearly sticking with Moore, and if we draft a QB, we will be giving that rookie QB 2nd team reps. Gerrard gets cut in TC.

That's what I'm saying........Moore has a tough battle on his hands to keep the starting job.

Unless the rookie is a very quick study, he will not be ready to run a pro WCO in his first year. This is why Miami has two veteran starters on the roster.

Good thing we beat out all the competition to get him

Several teams were reported to have interest in him including the Rams and Jets. What does your statement have to do with anything? Is that all you have to offer here?

Why does Moore have a tough battle? Gerrard is 34 and hasnt played in a year. We know what we have in Moore, and it would be stupid to not start Moore to see if he can progress.

During the combine, Jeff Ireland said Matt More was "going ot be a big part of our team" and that he was "going to try to continue to help him as a player". I think thats a pretty big endorsement of Matt Moore by Ireland.

Tannehill ran a WCO under our current OC Mike Sherman in college. Even if he didnt, you dont draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round to have him inactive every game and practice with the scout team. There is no room on an NFL roster for 3 QBs anymore.

That's not what the team is saying. There are saying that Moore and Garrard will be competing for the job. Garrard if healthy will make the team as a backup at the very least and possibly the starter. That what he was brought in for.

Dont be naive...if I have to translate what Ireland says to the media for you...nevermind
