David Garrard = Jim Plunkett

My prediction is that Garrard doesn't make the final 53. I think Moore will get the starting job and Miami will ship Garrard out of town for a mid to late round pick. Probably a 5th.

Wow! thats a bold prediction. Although it wouldn't surprise me one bit. They've done it before with Josh McCown.

If this were to happen, Ireland would be a genious getting something for nothing.

Garrard is way better than Josh McCown.. Could you have imagined that season if Pennington didnt fall into our laps? 2-14 at best.

Did I see someone comparing garrbage to Pennington in the mental aspects of the game?

That is like comparing Roseanne Barr to Lauren Tannehill.

Maybe in leadership and experience I would buy the similarities but also like Penny he's on borrowed time at this point.

Unless Garrard lights it up in camp, wich he has an outside shot to do, I think he gets released before opening day. I think we only keep 1 QB outside of Tannehill.

Garrard gets cut IMO

Ive always wondered this.. What hapepens to players who get cut after they sign a contract. Is the contract contingent on them making the team, or are we on the hook for his 1 year salary if we cut him?

IF Garrard is healthy, I'd do the opposite... keep Garrard and trade Moore.

Because he's a vet, his entire 2012 salary is guaranteed if he is active for the first game of the season, otherwise it only a certain portion of the contract is guaranteed if he is cut before game one - which is about 1 million I think. He signed a 1-year contract for $3.5 million.

If he gets cut before game 1, he gets to keep the signing bonus of $1 million for 2012.

If he is active for game 1, he gets at least $2.5 million for 2012.

The remaining $1 million in his contract is all incentives based on starts and performance.

Gotcha.. thanks for the explanation. I was going to say it would be odd for teams to sign players to fully garuanteed contracts if there is a possibility said player will get cut.

Plunkett - for you NFL fan youngsters - was a QB for New England and then the Niners in the 70's....and made his name as a Raider in the twilight of his career.

A great defense. Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes were GREAT book end corners. Marcus Allen was there great half back.

And Plunkett was the last piece of their puzzle who played great for them and won superbowls in his late 30's.

Garrard has all of the ingredients to help the Dolphins rise to greatness.

A seasoned veteran that knows game management and how to utilize the tools around him....

OK hopefully I'm right!

One big difference between the two........Garrard was a 4th round pick that no one thought much of.

Jim Plunkett was a Number 1 overall pick that great things were expected of from him eventually, and he delivered on the promise.

other than their age, I see no similarity to their stories.

I also think your thinking is off base, if this team rises to greatness it will most likely be Ryan Tannehill leading the way.

garrbage AT HIS HEALTHIEST & BEST (5 years ago) was still <<<<<<<<<< Plunkett when Plunkett was a patsie.

Too inconsistant.

People forget: Plunkett spent a lot of his career playing really poorly. Maybe it was not his fault in that the teams he played for were not that competitive - but....The argument that Garrard was a 4th rounder and Plunkett was a 1st rounder - irrelevant.

Pennington proved that a cerebral, veteran qb that knows how to utilize talent and win games in the final 5 minutes of the game makes all the difference.

Garrard is better then Tanneyhill right now. Let the youngster get used to the speed of the game and how to travel, and how to prepare and how to learn about the way to play the game for at least a year - some guys take 2. A few can come in and learn and lose and still succeed in this league. Many guys who are rushed get destroyed physically, emotionally.

I think opposite. Moore will be traded garrard will start
