Davone Bess is expected to remain the Dolphins' primary punt returner.

Man I never in my whole life saw this kind of uprising against a punt returner that averaged over 11 yards per return last year. Jeebus.

Incidentally FinHeaven started having server issues a few weeks back when Slimm and I were talking about Davone Bess and Reggie Bush and he extended an offer of a bet with me that Davone Bess never again accounts for 5 TDs in a season. I wanted to answer that I'll take that bet but then the servers screwed around for a couple of hours and by the time I came back I forgot which thread we were in.

So Slimm if the offer's still on, I'll take that bet gladly. But, I don't think it's useful to say "forever" because who's gonna remember? So I'll give you a choice:

1. 4+ TDs in 2011
2. 5+ TDs in either 2011 or 2012

Whatcha say?

Good grief just pick one... make it light on yourself.

You got action on either one of 'em....

Edit: Here's your thread by the way: http://www.finheaven.com/forums/sho...-makes-me-a-little-mad..-just-a-little./page6

"situational" as in if we are down by 7 or less in the 4th quarter. Not a big fan of Bess on punts but he is atleast secure with the ball.

I don't know about that he had a couple dropped punts last year.

Bush

92 PR
7.8 YPR
10 plays of 20+ yards
6 plays of 40+ yards (1 playoffs)
5 TD (1 playoffs)
6 FUMBLES

Bess

74 PR
9.8 YPR
6 plays of 20+ yards
1 play of 40+ yards
0 TD
6 FUMBLES

this is just ignorant. its all risk and little if any reward. bess is way to valuable to risk getting injured on an 8 yard punt return.

PHILIP LIVAS!!!!!

this is why tony sparano will not succeed. he refuses to allow a spot on the roster just for a return speciallist and this team needs one BAD!!!!

bess isnt worth a crap at pr. safe hands. big deal!! he isnt a kr either. nolan carroll was pretty good, showed flashes but we still need that kind of guy who can make the plays we need. i know everyone is clamoring for GATES but its more than just being fast. theres LOTS of fast guys who never made it as a return guy because they didnt have the moves to go with it which you need because there are not a lot of big open holes to run through in the nfl.

and you have to be able to get into your speed right away, not need 15 yds to get it like ginn.

it appears that tony has no intention of keeping a spot for livas. that kids college films are off the charts!! he has it all, the speed, wicked moves, cuts on a dime and gets into full speed in a hurry. pops out of a gang of tacklers with ease.

he will keep some scrub dime a dozen small school guard and let a talent like livas get away. watch, the jets will snatch him up and he will be a probowl returner as they need a return guy since both of theres are gone.

hopefully this is just tony not letting a rookie get to excited. maybe we will see livas in the pre games a lot and he will deliver enough to make tony cut lose one of his precious, small school no talent o-linemen. but, i am not sure if he would do it even if he had 3 pre season td's on returns. and tony will continue his lost in the fog post game sound bites about how the special teams need to step it up after watching bess once again catch a punt and do his side step and crumple to the turf.

Bush not returning punts is just another example of Sparano "not getting it"

Bush is a home run hitter at PR, not using him there is stupid.

Bush is the equivalent of Ronnie Brown on Special Teams.

With the exception of 2008( where his 3 TD'S were), much like Ronnies 1 season, Bush has been less then average as a punt returner. Bush is not a homerun hitter, he had 1 great season as a returner, 1 horrible season and the other below average as a return man.

I can't discredit what he did in 08 because he was great, but I will look at him as a whole and his whole career returning punts has been average to below average

This is great statistics but misleading. The majority of those nice stats for Bush came in 2008. The other 2 seasons he was below a 7 return average with no TD'S

Thank you for that.

zero TD's from Bess is all we need to see. Not once has he broken out for a TD. Move on. Let him do his thing at the slot and that's it.
