Davone Bess is expected to remain the Dolphins' primary punt returner.

Just another example of the ineptness of this regime. How can they trot out a gameplan of 'more of the same' when our ST's last year were absolutely atrocious??? How can they undervalue the 'game' of field position so much??? How are they still employed???

What is the reasoning behind this Tony??? Because Bush might get hurt??? So by that line of argument we should be 'saving' all of our best players for use in 'special' situations??? Maybe we shouldn't let Marshall play until we are in the red zone??? Yes it is ludicrous but so is the thinking behind a move like this. With Bush on the roster BESS IS CLEARLY NOT THE BEST OPTION WE HAVE... So how is this defensible????

Want to help Henne??? How about giving him the ball with GOOD field position..? How about giving the Offense a little buffer by spotting them 6 points every now and then when Bush takes it to the house? With the defense we can field, they can protect leads... Just ANOTHER in the long list of examples where this regime declines to take advantage... To ATTACK. Thank God we have Nolan. :bobdole:

fail

not too surprising of a choice though. We always seem to make the "safe" choices.

And then when our PR fumbles the ball it automatically gives them a monster advantage and you guys will be complaining about Bess not being in there.

Like when Bess fumbled (and lost) a punt against the Jets last year near our end zone?

Look, I love me some Bess in the slot, but he is simply not the answer for punt returns.
We need someone who can outrun a third string linebacker playing punt coverage...

Didn't Bess fumble at the worst time against the Saints?

Only in Finheaven will people complain about a top 8 punt return man in the NFL keeping his job as the returner.

Swing and a miss!!! Dude this has NOTHING to do with his ranking... Since we have Bush on the roster Bess IS NO LONGER OUR BEST option... regardless of where Bess finished... 8th or 18th. THAT IS THE POINT. It is ludicrous to acquire a multi dimensional player like Bush only to file down some of those edges.

I can't wait for Tony's next presser where he proudly announces Bush will not be used in passing plays simply because his position has 'Running' in the title.

I swear to God this FO works from its own dictionary where the words... 'DYNAMIC, DANGEROUS and AGGRESSIVE' are replaced with 'ADEQUATE, AVERAGE and SAFE'.

Wtf.. for one, he sucks at returns, and two, we lose a big part of our offense if Bess is hurt.. putting him on PR's definitely increases that.

Almost never fumbles?
2nd most in the league with 3 fumbles
and his 20 fair catches was also 2nd most in the league

This position should have been upgraded

I like how you always post stats . . . but it can be viewed 2 ways. Josh Cribbs has a lower average, lower "longest" return and the same amount of fumbles as Bess and people would take him in a heartbeat over Bess on punts w/o thinking twice about it. Just for thought . . . .

I think Reggie will return punts also, but I was always cool with Bess still being in the mix . . . seriously, who else is going to do it? There is no room to make 6 WR's active . . . Daniel Thomas, Lex Hilliard, Brian Hartline Charles Clay? Gates doesn't return punts . . . . Maybe Jimmy Wilson or another DB . . . but yea this is being overblown a bit.

Bess is a safe choice for a a punt returner. He alsmot never fumbles, very sure handed, and doesn't ever lose yards. The downside is that he isn't a guy that can make a few people miss and take it to the house. He will occasionally break off a 20+ yard return, but isn't a real threat to score.

NOt when he actually catches it instead of letting it bounce 20 yards behind him to the 3 yard line where the kicking team recovers it. This happens all too often. And usually when Bess has a clear chance to catch the ball without getting hit. Certainly with enough room to call a fair catch

My understanding is coach said he wasn't going to have reggie be the primary returner he didn't say that bess was the primary guy correct? That would leave the door open for Gates or if they make the team Sheets, Livas or Grigsby.

well at least we don't have to wait around to see the results of the punt return, you can get your bathroom break, snack break, whatever outta the way right after a 3 and out.

The pause button on my DVR remote will never be used after 3 and outs.
