Davone Bess is expected to remain the Dolphins' primary punt returner.

Swing and a miss!!! Dude this has NOTHING to do with his ranking... Since we have Bush on the roster Bess IS NO LONGER OUR BEST option... regardless of where Bess finished... 8th or 18th. THAT IS THE POINT. It is ludicrous to acquire a multi dimensional player like Bush only to file down some of those edges.

I can't wait for Tony's next presser where he proudly announces Bush will not be used in passing plays simply because his position has 'Running' in the title.

I swear to God this FO works from its own dictionary where the words... 'DYNAMIC, DANGEROUS and AGGRESSIVE' are replaced with 'ADEQUATE, AVERAGE and SAFE'.

C'mon Fishy...

Do you really think Sparano would risk giving up all of his fistpump opportunites after field goals for 6 points on a punt return?

I could understand your point more if Bush had significantly better punt return #'s for his career, but he really doesn't. We aren't talking about Hester or Hall here.

We are talking about Bush who actually has an equal or worse return average then Bess over his career. Bush does have a few TD'S, I understand the allure of the TD. But overall, Bess is consistantly moving forward.

Now where I undertand peoples gripes is with guys like Gates, not Bush. Bush is not a clear cut better option then Bess

Amigo I'm not trying to be an a** but do you really believe this???

As a rule I generally disregard statistics in a disagreement believing them to be simply arguments of convenience that can be made to tell many different stories...

I don't hate Bess... That's him in my avatar... but quite simply if you are going to go out of your way to sign a player as electric as Bush why in the world would you not use him? It actually defies logic... You don't want Bush to get tired/hurt? Well isn't Bess a big part of our offense as well?? So how in the world does that thinking apply???

Did Tony not learn a thing watching his own team last year??? Our defense might have even been better than their rating suggested considering the awful ST's play and how we constantly spotted teams points and field position and put our 'D' in tough spots... This announcement (if true) is a direct admission that Tony does not value the battle for field position or the very real possibility of a home run...

He does not have the horses on offense to play it so safe... He needs to aggressively press any advantage and find points wherever he can.

Really getting frustrated. We were promised electricity, and our ST as a whole were abismal last year. Bess doesnt equal electricity, he equals consistency. I just want a f#%&ing speedster than can stretch the field whenever he touches the ball. Kinda like when we signed "peanut" from Tampa, I liked the signing at the time but it just turned out bad. We cant fault anyone but the player for that. I would like our FO to take more chances like that! Just sayin'

Exactly. It's the THREAT of the big return with Reggie Bush that is a CLEAR upgrade over Bess. Forget whatever the average is or what the stats say...

6 points on a punt return counts just as much as 6 points as a pass to Brandon Marshall... You want to give yourself every opportunity possible to score 6 points.

You want to use speed and playmaking ability to give you an advantage in every way possible. The "fumble" or turnover excuse doesn't even make sense...

If they're worried about turnovers, then they had no business trading up for a back with fumbling issues... nor do they have any business trotting out a starting quarterback who's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, and has a streak somewhere in the 'teens of consecutive games throwing picks....

Nothing Sparano does makes sense. Nothing.

I find it disconcerting that Gates isn't considered a better option.

They haven't even seen him return punts yet. If he gets the chance to do so and is successful, there's no reason to believe he won't get an opportunity to get time at PR.

With these type of decisions, will anyone be surprised if Sporano gets canned next season?

Who's Sporano?

Personally I'd lean toward Bess as the punt returner. But I think they're making the right decision for the wrong reasons. And there's something to be said for the argument that if you have an offense that sucks putting the ball in the end zone you're going to want to steer toward the punt returner that has shown the ability to get the ball in the end zone rather than the one that steadily gets you more hidden yardage.

secure with the ball and in quick sand when running laterally from a standing still position...i agree with the handling of bush though on returns...very minimally when we need a boost...

but god we don't have anyone else in camp who can field a punt and provide a better spark than bess??? ugh

From all the good things I've heard about Gates, I thought they might try him out there.

Almost never fumbles?
2nd most in the league with 3 fumbles
and his 20 fair catches was also 2nd most in the league

This position should have been upgraded

these are telling stats..
how can sparano be content with the status quo ?
just shows how hard change is for him he has hard time trusting somebody else
I guess its a jersey thing

9k=

Only on in miami is mediocrity rewarded

2 words - Korey Sheets.
7 more words - Please no more Bess as Punt Returner

I doubt Sheets makes the team now that we have Bush...and if they aren't even using Sheets to return kicks...you know he is gone!

God I can't wait till Sporano is gone next year..I'm actually surprised we don't have an o-lineman back there returning kicks..Just stupid to have Bess back there,he runs like 5 yards and that's it..woohoooo 5 yards!!!, fist pump!.

I can't wait to see Tony back in 2012 and 2013.

Yawn. You're telling me we can't get Gates or maybe that Grigsby kid on returns? Anybody but Bess, please...

i dont why so many are surprised . this fits perfectly with this regimes ongoing theme , if it's broke , don't fix it.
