With a recent thread about DirecTV Sunday Ticket, I thought this thread would be timely and didn't include it in the other thread so it wouldn't get buried.

If any of you have DirecTV and want Sunday Ticket, but don't want to pay their outrageous price of over $300, all you have to do is play the game, as I did earlier today.

Now, in the past (I've had it for the last 3 years) I have gotten some money off (usually somewhere from 25-50 percent off for the season), but today, I hit the jackpot. Here's how:

I first called and talked to someone specifically in the Sunday Ticket area. When I said I wasn't sure if I wanted it or not this season (I seriously would never cancel, but they don't know that), they wanted to give it to me for $200 for the season. I said I'd have to think about it, but they stood firm on the offer and I said I'd call back later in the week. After I hung up, I called right back and instead of asking for a DirecTV representative, I asked to speak to an agent and he eventually transferred me to the Retention Department. I explained to the person in Retention that my DirecTV bill is currently $100/month without Sunday Ticket and I recently got something in the mail from my local cable company that had a deal to bundle my cable/internet/phone for just $100 and I was debating cancelling DirecTV altogether.

Well, here's what he was able to do for me. I had to agree to extend my contract with them for 2 years, but in return, I got Sunday Ticket for FREE, $20 off my monthly bill for the next 12 months, HBO, Showtime and Cinemax FREE for the next 3 months, FREE Genie receiver upgrade with whole home DVR for $3/month and I purchased the SuperFan package (Redzone and mobile device viewing) for $18/month, which I figured wasn't bad at that point. Overall, it's about $600 worth of savings over the next 12 months.
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up that there are deals out there for Sunday Ticket. You just have to do the dance and play the game. :hi5:

This especially works if you've been with DirecTV for over 3 or 4 years.

Direct TV is so greedy and i hope someone finds a way to break up this monopoly that they have. Easily could have team packages you could buy since i really only want to watch Fins games and nothing else really so why do I need to pay 300 dollars a month for something i only want a piece of. Just a bunch of greedy bastards if you ask me.

You don't have to pay $300 for it. That's the point.

On a sidenote, they are merging with AT&T sometime in the next year. Not sure how that will affect Sunday Ticket, but it may open the door for non-DirecTV subscribers to get Sunday Ticket on their TV.

Wow - that's awesome. Always ask - the worst they can say is NO!

I wonder if that would work for someone like me who isn't allowed to have a dish (apartment complex). Had DirecTV when I lived with my parents and Sunday Ticket for ten years. Then, switched to the tablet version and going with that again this year. I should give them a call, although I wish they had a Madden deal like last year.

I'm fortunate to be able to watch the Fins without having to have to deal with the horrible service ****tv, I mean directv, provides.

Avoid AT&T at all costs. Terrible customer service and they have their head up their ass. Tried to make me pay extra money after my final bill with them. Said I still owed money. BS

I can't understand why cable companies and the NFL won't get together and offer some type of pay-per-view system. I live in Eagles country; rarely are the Fins televised for a non-primetime game. Even though I do not want a dish, I'd never pay for Sunday Ticket... all I want is the Fins game each week. If I want to watch a second game, I'll just watch whichever game is on TV.

With cable, customers can see certain sporting events on a pay-per-view basis. They can watch movies on demand for a fee. There is no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to see Miami play every week on my HDTV (instead of on my laptop using a crappy bootleg site) for a fee.

I have to respectfully disagree bro on Directv. They all and all are the best I have dealt with. I know the Time Warner Cable out here has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. AT&T can be up and down.

I have yet to call and not get something for free. I have been a customer for over 13 years.
However, it does not work exactly as you explain every time you call.
If you are under contract (I am ) its almost impossible to get a discount on Sunday Ticket. They know you cannot dump them without incurring a large fee.

I upgraded to Genie a few months ago and agreed to a new 2 year contract. While under contract, you can get discounts. But Sunday Ticket is usually not an option during a contract period. Once the period of contract expires, them by all means you can ask for better discounts.
I got the movie channels for 3 months to when I got the free upgrade.
Lastly you never know what they will do for you. So, no matter your position, ask them!

DirectV is by far the best TV programming and in customer service. 13 years with them and I only have one single complaint.

Inclement weather. Heavy rain or snow will block the signal sometimes. There is nothing you can do about this.

I agree. Best customer service and the best in programs available. Plus they got Sunday Ticket!
The CSR's are the most friendly and accommodating group of people have ever had to deal with!

I was really hoping google was going to bid on sunday ticket as the rumors had suggested, and made it an online streaming service. Would have made me so happy.

You would think that DirecTV would value long time customers over brand new customers but they do just the opposite. After one year they raise your monthly fee by about 25-30%, and you pay more than a new customers. Something is wrong there.

Do you understand what capitalism is?? In a free market society the market is SUPPOSED to set the price. If people stop paying $300 per year for NFL ticket the price will drop, if they keep paying it, it will remain the same or go up slightly. That isn't being greedy that is understanding 8th grade "supply and demand".

Does anyone have any idea how much it cost to send a satelite into space?? I've looked into sending my exwife up there to get her off this planet, and I can tell ya it isn't cheap. DirecTV has spent, not millions, but BILLIONS to retain exclusive NFL rights. DirecTV is doing EXACTLY what they are supposed to be doing, testing the free market. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to pay for NFL ticket like they are for say, health care. You have a right to buy it or not buy it. And they don't even hold a monopoly. If you don't want to pay the price, you can always go to your local bar every week.

If not for big companies taking big risk in gambling that society will repay them for advancing technologies none of us would even have the option of having such a opportunity of getting to see our favorite team play from the privacy and comfort of our own living rooms. I can't afford $300 per year for the Ticket, but I am thankful it is there.

Yes, this is the biggest problem I have also. No customer loyality programs, instead they do just the opposite. All the big providers do it, but that is the main reason I switched back to cable.

I switched back to cable as well. The problem I had with the service was the poor reception during stormy weather which happens a lot in south Florida.
You get no credit for disruptive service. I complained to them and told them to install the biggest and baddest dish they have. They installed it, but it was only slightly better.
To top it all off, when I finally decided to sever the service after my contract was expired, I asked them up front what the final payment would be and when it would be due.
I paid the "Final" fee, and low and behold I got another bill after returning my equipment.
They threatened to put it into collections if I didn't pay. What a bunch of thieves. I paid the additional fee. They will never get another dollar from me.
