Deal of the century

i just called and got the ticket for free and 20 off a month for 12 months and 5 off a month for 24 months plus showtime for free for 3 months. it pays to call and play the game

If you complain loud enough about pretty much any problem, and escalate the call to a supervisor, you often can get anything you want....you just have to know how to smooth talk.

I've had DirecTV for years, and I can only remember 2 instances where weather prevented me from getting a signal - one of those instances was a tropical storm. Even during severe thunderstorms, I have no problem getting a perfect signal. On the other hand, I also have half of my house wired for Brighthouse and the reception on those cable boxes often freezes and requires resetting. Bottom line is I have had more problems with grounded connections than I have had with satellite.

I wish I could say the same thing. My dish can smell rain and lose signal. Had several service calls here over the years about this problem and they seem to make it better, but rain is all I need to lose the signal. Even a storm close by and no rain will knock it out. This is my only complaint with satellite TV.
I have excellent reception BTW according to the self test feature.

My Dad had one of those large dishes that he used with free to air satellite receiver. He could pickup all kinds of channels in the Middle East for free.
But since they live in the woods the only place he could get good signal quality was with the Dish right near the sidewalk to the front door.
My mom hated it. When my dad died about a month ago the 1st thing my mom wanted done was to get that damn thing out of the front of the house.
My brothers and I moved it to the back where my brother chopped it up for scrap aluminum.

Sorry about your dad.
I had the mesh type, the newest at the time and it was not a giant. I think it was 6'-8' in diameter. It moved to hunt down signals and it took forever it seemed to find a show and point at it. But it was the only way to watch my team every Sunday.
They gave me the Ticket for free the first year I had it. Like you say, there was plenty free stuff. Even porn. "not that I watched it"

When I went to the small digital dish, I put an ad in the paper. "Free satellite dish with receiver and RF remote. A guy was here within a day or so and took it all. He even got the cable that was buried.

This only works if you're currently on a month to month with them, and not in contract. If you threaten to leave while in contract, they will just send you to collecrions.

This is partially true. When under contract, you have little ammunition to get them to do much.
But I have called with complaints while under contract and got perks. Like free movie channels, discounts ect...
It never hurts to try.
One thing about DirectV. When you call. You get something if you ask.

If you complain loud enough about pretty much any problem, and escalate the call to a supervisor, you often can get anything you want....you just have to know how to smooth talk.

Exactly. If you have a valid complaint, regardless of contract or not, they will do something to please you. They always have for me. Thats why I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years with Sunday Ticket in each of those years.

Well you did better than me. I told them Verizon was making a big push in my area and I already have Verizon phone and internet so it would be really cheap for me to add TV. Told them Sunday ticket was the only reason I even get Direct TV and $300 bucks was too steep for me this year. I also mentioned how they dropped WWE PPV's so now I can't get them lol. I got:

$30 off for 6 months, which extends to $20 for 15 months and $5 for 24 months. Total savings is $405 over 2 years. Better than nothing, I should have told them I'd do a 1 or 2 year agreement, maybe I'd have gotten more.

Was told by DirecTV that they give out the Sunday Ticket for free sometimes if you call retention and ask for it in early August. Called last night and ask for it for free, they said they couldn't do it but they would give it to me for 50% plus I got the red zone channel, NFL mobile with the all 22 view for the season. Pretty good deal. Didn't have to threaten to leave or anything, just asked for a Sunday Ticket...but I've had DirecTV for 4 years so I have some loyalty with the service.

Really, the only way to get a discount is to re-up your Direct TV Contract.

Also, the receivers belong to you regardless if you've paid them off or not. The reason I know this is I had a faulty receiver past the 1 year warranty, called to get it replaced and they said sorry you never signed up for our protection plan - Therefore, you have to buy a new receiver.

However, if you resign for another 2 years we will send you a new one and you only pay the install cost.

Just called today because my 10 dollar monthly credit was running out. They gave me the basic nfl ticket for free along with 4 month of showtime.
Also gave me 15 dollar credit for a year and a 100 dollar visa gift card. Just had to commit to another year. Done

If not for big companies taking big risk in gambling that society will repay them for advancing technologies none of us would even have the option of having such a opportunity of getting to see our favorite team play from the privacy and comfort of our own living rooms. I can't afford $300 per year for the Ticket, but I am thankful it is there.

Not to get too political, but... Most technologies start out w/ the Gov't i.e. the internet & DARPA then in comes companies like Stark Industries initially working on Gov't contracts.

That said, I will not pay for DirecTV. Comcast Digital Preferred is how I roll (decent $ & customer service). I follow the phins on ESPN's game cast then watch some of the game Aikman is doing. I have better ways to waste time on Sunday.
