I've had DirecTV for years, and I can only remember 2 instances where weather prevented me from getting a signal - one of those instances was a tropical storm. Even during severe thunderstorms, I have no problem getting a perfect signal. On the other hand, I also have half of my house wired for Brighthouse and the reception on those cable boxes often freezes and requires resetting. Bottom line is I have had more problems with grounded connections than I have had with satellite.
I wish I could say the same thing. My dish can smell rain and lose signal. Had several service calls here over the years about this problem and they seem to make it better, but rain is all I need to lose the signal. Even a storm close by and no rain will knock it out. This is my only complaint with satellite TV.
I have excellent reception BTW according to the self test feature.
My Dad had one of those large dishes that he used with free to air satellite receiver. He could pickup all kinds of channels in the Middle East for free.
But since they live in the woods the only place he could get good signal quality was with the Dish right near the sidewalk to the front door.
My mom hated it. When my dad died about a month ago the 1st thing my mom wanted done was to get that damn thing out of the front of the house.
My brothers and I moved it to the back where my brother chopped it up for scrap aluminum.
Sorry about your dad.
I had the mesh type, the newest at the time and it was not a giant. I think it was 6'-8' in diameter. It moved to hunt down signals and it took forever it seemed to find a show and point at it. But it was the only way to watch my team every Sunday.
They gave me the Ticket for free the first year I had it. Like you say, there was plenty free stuff. Even porn. "not that I watched it"
When I went to the small digital dish, I put an ad in the paper. "Free satellite dish with receiver and RF remote. A guy was here within a day or so and took it all. He even got the cable that was buried.
This only works if you're currently on a month to month with them, and not in contract. If you threaten to leave while in contract, they will just send you to collecrions.
This is partially true. When under contract, you have little ammunition to get them to do much.
But I have called with complaints while under contract and got perks. Like free movie channels, discounts ect...
It never hurts to try.
One thing about DirectV. When you call. You get something if you ask.
If you complain loud enough about pretty much any problem, and escalate the call to a supervisor, you often can get anything you want....you just have to know how to smooth talk.
Exactly. If you have a valid complaint, regardless of contract or not, they will do something to please you. They always have for me. Thats why I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years with Sunday Ticket in each of those years.
