With all the talk about offenses, the passing records that have fallen and trying to match these offensive juggernaunts, it's interesting that three of the remaining teams in the postseason won primarily on defense. Only New England remains as one of the top offensive teams in the super bowl derby. So what does that say? Well, it would be silly with all the rules changes in the passing game not to take advantage of that and look to be an explosive offense. But maybe the fastest road to the super bowl is still on defense. That, by the way, is good news for the Dolphins. Miami has a defense that is good, but not great. Add a pass rusher and another top corner and the Dolphins might be a top five unit capable of limiting the best quarterbacks like Tom Brady. From a coaching standpoint, maybe a defensive guy is the right call.

While I agree that a stout defense is a must, we have to have a very good offense due to the division we are in. No-one shuts N.E. down completely but you can limit then and outscore them

The #1 defense 49ers let up 32pts yesterday.....

The Steelers top defense let Tim Tebow beat them.....

Its different strokes for different folks

there is no recipe anymore, each team has to find their own identity and just go with it, what are we best at? and just make that your identity and dont stray from it, get hot at the right time, a couple lucky bounces, and boom your on your way

I guess getting hot at the right time is hugh....look at GB last year and the giants now....I believe in order to win you need to have some balance.

Ozzy rules!!

Two top-five QBs left in the playoffs. The other two are better than Matt Moore.
Very true. Eli Manning and Tom Brady are elite. The other two Joe Flaco and Alex Smith are more in the caregiver role. I don't think Miami should ignore the quarterback position, it's always been the most important position in the NFL and is even more so with the rules in the passing game. But, you've got to be able to disrupt the rhythm of the opposing offenses. I like the way the Giants do that.

Also intersting to note that three of the four were first round picks, including two that went first overall.

Sorry but injuries killed the Steelers not Tebow, not many teams in the league could have overcome the injuries Pittsburgh had.

It never ceases to amaze me. After years of ineptitude since Marino retired, there are still voices trying to under value qb play. Let's prop up a unit requiring 11 men to play to diminish the effect of what one player brings. Sometimes I feel I'm living on a different planet

Baltimore and the Jest shut them down in the playoffs the last two years. NE basically received a two week bye into the AFC Championship but at least they will have to earn their next two games!

The Giants scored 37 points and racked up 420 yards of offense while giving up 20 points and 388 yards. The Niners scored 36 points and rcked up 407 yards of offense while giving up 32 points and 472 yards. The only game that was remotely defensive was the Baltimore/Houstin game, and Houston racked up 315 yards on Baltimore, they just turned it over 4 times.

brees gone, rodgers gone, the teams with a pass rush and defense both won, flacco and smith are not much better then moore stats wise, they have better running games, weapons and defenses, bottom line is defense still wins championships

Dear lord. Flacco is far superior to Matt Moore. Even Alex smith is. Maybe it's me
