Let's see what he has to work with. He had Tim Tebow as his QB. Team will LOAD the box knowing that he isn't accurate all the time. He has to run the ball because Tebow sucked.

More homerism from those who think:

1. This was a playoff team in 2011. The universal view of the national media was all wrong because Miami is a super secret great team.
2. Tony Sparano is an outstanding coach. He works hard so that means he is smart.
3. Chad Henne is a great quarterback prospect. You guys who don't like him are just meanies.
4. Miami has had a great run under the Ireland regime. Lots of great high picks like Pat Turner, Pat White, Philip Merling, and Chad Henne.
5. Miami did a great job drafting John Jerry and passing on Jimmy Graham from their own backyard. That cornfed lineman is so critical.
6. You meanies don't understand. Marc Colombo, like all ex Cowboys, was going to do great in 2011.
7. Miami has done a great job of solving the offensive line position over the past 4 years. Trading up for Shawn Murphy was brilliant. Donald Thomas was a great pick. Trading a starter like Samson Satele for nothing was brilliant. Signing veteran free agents like Smiley, Grove, and Berger paid major dividends.
8. Nothing is Jeff Ireland's fault. He was not one of the major identifiers of talent the past 4 years. Parcells did all the legwork.
9. Miami has done a great job having 4 years to get a franchise quarterback in here and not getting it done.
10. Miami knows and understands the importance of playmakers on defense. They've done a great job getting top notch safeties in here. Clemons and Jones were excellent safeties such that Miami could afford to stand pat.
11. Miami's phenomenal record the past 4 years has allowed Miami to have the best home field advantage in football. Pro Player is full of Miami fans every week, all stirred up in a frenzy like this was 20 years ago.
12. Like Sparano, the new coach will for sure be brilliant, because, well, any human being wearing a Dolphin logo is necessarily the best.

Bottom line, everything Miami does is defensible to the simpleton homers and the constant defense of everything Miami does removes any shred of credibility from them.

This right here says it all.

I'm going to enjoy looking for the new head coach in a couple of years.

Just like there are people here who think Sparano shouldn't have been fired. McCoy hasn't developed a single QB in his career. Jake Delhomme, Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow...that's an impressive list of nobodies. And before anybody posts that Orton had his best year under McCoy, if it was really him and not Josh McDaniels why couldn't he sustain it the following year when they started off 1-4 and put Orton on the bench?

Delhomme was doing amazing until his last years he was a nobody who went to the super bowl

Moore had issues in Carolina he wasn't committed and got hurt

Claseun sucks

I don't know enough about McCoy to like or loathe the hiring. Even the Dolphins "brain trust" (such as it is) has to be in major doubt, as they swung and missed on not one (Cowher), not two (Gruden), but three (Fisher) candidates before giving the guy a look, and even then he had to duke it out with some very unaccomplished competition to win the job by what would appear to be, essentially, default. But who knows? We may look back on Ross' bumbling, stumbling failures with the Big 3 as a blessing. Maybe this guy comes in with a fire in his gut, brings in some smart, young coaching talent (I'd be happy to see him hold onto Daboll after last year), and surprises everyone given time and opportunity.

In an honest effort to learn more about him, does anyone here know anything about his relationship with Marshall in Denver? Obviously Marshall performed well working with him, and I've seen people throw out Marshall's statistical success at Denver in the "pros" column for McCoy -- but I'm wondering if there is any correlation? Has Marshall publicly said anything about McCoy one way or another? I'm honestly more interested in what we can learn about McCoy as a motivator and organizer than at an X's and O's level. That's overrated.

If you credit McDaniels for the success, why not blame Fox for the failure?

Lmao well said. Can't remember the last winning candidate outside of Saban

Um -- in 2006, Cam Cameron was OC for the San Diego Chargers, who finished the campaign as the No. 1 seed in the AFC at 14–2, best record in the NFL. The Chargers offense amassed a team-record 494 points while paving the way for league MVP LaDainian Tomlinson to break the single-season touchdown record. The Chargers didn't win a playoff game, losing to the Patriots 24-21 in the divisional round.

In 2007, with Tony Sparano as assistant head coach/line coach, the Dallas Cowboys finished the regular season tied for the best record in the NFC (13–3), and earned a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Cowboys didn't win a playoff game, losing to the Giants in the divisional round.

So yeah, we've had some candidates who coached for teams with winning records since Saban. How has that worked out for us? Frankly, I wouldn't put a lot of weight on the W-L record of an assistant coach's team in predicting his potential success as a head coach. Obviously coming from a winning team doesn't guarantee success (see, e.g., Cameron and Sparano). Likewise, it would be inane to suggest that McCoy will have more success because, although the Broncos were 8-8 with him last year, they actually won a playoff game, unlike Cameron's Chargers and Sparano's Cowboys the year before they became Dolphins head coaches, respectively. There is no correlation.

I don't like this guy at all. There's still a lot of guys out there and they pick McCoy?

Yup, there's several guys I would've chosen ahead of McCoy as well (Billick, Zimmer, Chud, Marty, etc), but it is what it is now. Whether we like it or not, he's most likely the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Honestly, I don't know what he'll bring to this team as HC, so I'm just going to ride it out myself and let him do his thing. :idk:

Can McCoy bring Dennis Allen with him so he can ride his coat tails to the playoffs here too? If not I'm not interested...

In all seriousness, this is ****ing pathetic. It's gotten so laughable. And for all of you who don't want to trade up for RG3, I hope you're ready for Riley Reiff or Jonathan Martin at #9 overall and another year of Matt Moore. Honestly... It's un ****ing believable.

And I'm SOOOO glad we started to win games after we started off 0-7. Those six HEART STOPPING, FRANCHISE CHANGING, PRECURSOR TO OUR 2053 SUPER BOWL WIN REALLY MADE A ****ING DIFFERENCE!!! Yeah, they made a difference between us GETTING BETTER and STAYING ****TY! I hope you're happy if you rooted for wins after 0-7.

WOW!!! Mike Morano or is it Tony McCoy, oh no wait one minute is it really Mike McCoy? Who cares!!! as long as he comes in, and commands respect, has the ability to get his players ready to play and play hard ... and shows the ability to make the proper in game adjustments (which the past coach didn't) and is a leader of men!!! I could care less that his QB was Tebow!!! WE ALL know what Tebow is and I'm not going to judge McCoy on what Fans think about Tebow's offense under McCoy ... What makes a coach is his ability to put his team in position to win and executes a winning program where everyone from players to coaches buy in and become consistent winners on Sunday's!!! Now obviously IF McCoy comes in and stinks the joint up like Cammy or Wanny; then there will be egg on Ross and Ireland's face!!! but until it's clear this guy actually STINKS .. I'll keep hoping McCoy leads The Miami Dolphins to MANY Victories!!!

loll you guys act like they are in denial, all you have to do is watch film to see they are 100% accurate.

Stop comparing McCarthy to anyone, the man took over a SUPER talented team on offense and defense. And has 2 HOF QB when he was there. WE don't have jack **** outside of Marshall and Bush.

 @ Film.

You don't ****ing have film, you have recorded games. Stop calling it film
