Developmental League

So we cant even fill our own stadium when tickets have been as cheap as $20, but we are going to pay money to go see some undrafted guys play on a high school football field? That league would be an immediate failure.

You would have to accept it's a loss leader.

You put the teams in areas under served by football in general, and you can have teams allocate players
to "The Leauge" or they just apply/show up and there is a draft or whatever.

It's not going to make money, BUT, it serves as an Ad to keep the NFL in the sports news stream
12 months a year. Esecially through february, etc

As soon as its been determined that a developmental league would lose money, then this conversation should be over. When we are talking about the NFL, then we are only talking about ways to increase revenue.

Loss leaders increase revenue

There is no way that taking a loss on a developmental league is going to lead to a revenue gain for an NFL team.
Sure it will.

You just can't see it big picture.

Everyone wants the NFL all the time. When the NFL slaps it's brand on a D leauge, and positions it in the mid winter, it's
a slam dunk to increase traffic to the brand.

That's why they are tweaking the draft.

Same reasoning.

Well that's a pretty big claim to make without numbers - that the NFL and all of its owners have completely overlooked all the increased revenues a developmental league would bring in.

I'd love to see a D-league but I doubt it happens. The NFL Europe didn't succeed for a number of reasons, one of which is that NFL coaches are simply stingy about sending out even backup caliber players to be not under their tutelage and to possible get hurt. I remember two Dolphins who played in NFL Europe, one was Leonard Henry who was an outstanding running back in play over there but got a significant muscle injury that really held him back when it came time for the NFL season. Another was the wide receiver Carl Morris, who every time I tuned in to a game was supposed to be a top playmaker in that league. When it came to putting him on an NFL field, he lacked the physical skills necessary to do anything against NFL caliber defenders.

The NFL Europe's quality of play was worse than mediocre college football, because unlike in college where there may be several guys with top talent even on midrange colleges, anyone with talent didn't get to the d-league in the first place.

That wouldn't be a bad idea.

In time you could have 4-6 teams all based in Florida and play games in Orlando, Gainesville, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville and Tallahassee.
The developmental league could all train at one central locations and be a bus league to keep costs low compared to other failed leagues.

Everyone wants the NFL. And there is the most
basic problem of a developmental league. The NFL
product is unique, a watered down product appeals
does not appeal to the masses.

With NFL looking to expand, additional risk by the owners for
even more teams would be stupid. Especially whenever tried, it fails.
