It has been reported that Ross gave Ireland directives not to spend big money on players this offseason, especially in regard to the offensive line. Is it possible that Ross was trying to quietly sabotage this team and set Sparano up for failure in order to ensure a high draft pick in a great QB class and get his guy in Cowher/Gruden next season?

that makes no sense at all , he gave sparano an extension when he did not have to

That extension could have, and probably was a giant smokescreen.

then he is the dumbest owner on earth. All he had to do was offer more to a guy like Cowher and he could have had his man. so in all liklihood he will be paying even more because he will be paying two coaches

he wasnt trying to sabotage the team. why would an owner do that to his own team? what it seems like he WAS doing (vetoing contract for orton etc) was setting the table for the future. he didnt get his guy in harbaugh, and he wasnt comfortable clearing the table just yet to bring in another coach. so it seems, he decided to let it ride headed into a lockout and see if the current staff could right the ship, and henne could emerge. but what he decided was to put the franchise in a position to move on the following year, if he felt that was the right course of action.

basically, either sparano proved the franchise was headed in the right direction, or ross would go find his first coaching hire after the year. if this is the case, as it seems to be, cant say it was a poor move either. and if we happen to get lucky, maybe well end up with a franchise QB for the first time in years.

Honestly, I felt like the extension was more akin to "I'm sorry" money than anything. I doubt he had any intentions of bringing Sparano back, unless he had an amazing season. He was just rewarding him for being immasculated in public by Ross.

I think Ross wanted to get rid of Sparano, but given the uncertainty of the lockout, chose to hedge his bets if he couldnt get Harbaugh (once it was known that Harbaugh was willing to leave college this season). It seems to me now that Ross' real target was 2012.

Who isn't a fan of conspiracy theories? Love em. Pleeeeease let him have some under-the-table deal with a big time HC. Please let him have already plotted which big time FAs will be available and in a Dolphins uniform. Please...

Brother, did you ever consider the possibility that no one worth hiring wanted the job for any amount of money? This a really bad franchise right now.

All of the sudden, you throw a first round pick on the contract table, in this draft probably meaning your franchise Qb (please god) and boom, you've got HCs attention.

This makes worlds of sense. What the hell are you doing in this forum? Stick to the decorum, guy. ;0)

pretty sure he gave him the extension because he felt bad that he will be firing him soon

franchises in much worse shape have hired many a high profile coach. Money and power are usually the main reasons that coaches take jobs.

Have you ever consider Ross is just bad at what he does.

have u considered perhaps he understands how to gather information and make the most informed choice he can based on that information? perhaps u have 3 billion in net worth? that shows this???

think!! i know its hard. but ross HASNT EVEN HIRED HIS OWN HEAD COACH YET. what SPECIFICALLY has he done thats been so bad??? oh he tried to hire harbaugh??? and thats BAD??? give me a break. **** sparanos feelings. **** the media for being a bunch of idiots about pursuing a head coach. at least he recognized a potential upgrade and didnt stand pat, like the media reports suggest he should have. THINK. clearly he wasnt sold on sparano, and clearly sparano has proven he wasnt to be trusted with the postion. so what does that make ross??? CORRECT!!!

let the guy hire HIS MAN, and lets see how it works out. we dont have anything to go on UNTIL hes had a chance to build this organization HIS WAY. he hasnt had enough time to do that yet.

He's certainly not trying to sabotage the season, however he proved that he would not sacrifice the future for this futile season. He didn't let Ireland throw away future draft picks or money in mild upgrades like Orton (who wouldn't be an upgrade anyway in retrospect). He understands that this team is basically flawed and the current regime will not be in place when it matters anyway. Petersen is giving him smart insight I figure.

I trust Ross until he proves me the opposite...

You fool........ Ross is a closet JETS fan with his secret agenda..
