I quess we'd still have drafted Tannehill even if we signed Matt Flynn..

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Sunday that rookie quarterback Russell Wilson will compete in training camp for the starting job with Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson.

Carroll made his decision after watching Wilson compete at the team's just completed three-day rookie minicamp. The Seahawks coach said Russell took 500 snaps and threw approximately 400 passes during the three days.

Was he that impressive or was Jackson and Mat not impressive enough from keeping him from being considered?

Well now we know why we didn't offer Matt big money..

Way to go Irlend...

His competing for the starting job has nothing to do with Matt Flynn's performance thus far. It has nothing to do with Russell Wilson's performance thus far, for that matter. It has everything to do with the fact that Russell Wilson was the 3rd best player on John Schneider's draft board PERIOD. Not the third best quarterback, the third best player he saw in all college football in 2011.

Was he really that good? I don't recall a whole lot said about him.

I think R. Wilson has the heart for the game. His talent and size reminds me of Pat White though. Odds are his height is really gonna hold him back from become successful in the NFL. Of course I could be wrong.

wow...stil don't think he'll beat out flynn...or that its really a comp but if the gms that high on the kid who knows...when gms make those kind of profound statements that go against the entire world pretty much if they don't pan out and i mean not career backup level but impact nfl player stuff that kind of talk just helps them kick you out the door

so why wait until pick 75 to draft him? In a QB needy league where so many teams dont have one, how could the 3rd best QB/3rd best overall player last 74 picks with nobody drafting him?

maybe that they are similar in height, but wilson isnt built like the toothipick that white is. he also seems a lot tougher mentally and physically than white.

I don't think we didn't dodge any bullets, I think we flat out missed on both Flynn and Wilson. I though all along signing Flynn in the off season was the way to go. When that didn't happen I thought spending our 1st and 2nd round picks to fill other needs and drafting Wilson in the 3rd to address the QB was the right play. Personally, I think Seattle executed what should have been Miami's game plan perfectly...twice!

5'11" 205 Lbs. - No thanks. This guys is gonna get crushed in the NFL. You guys are in denial if you think he is a starting NFL QB. And dont give me the Drew Brees argument. For every Brees there is 50 failed QBs < 6'0".

wilson always seemed to me a little less athletic much more intelligent tyrod taylor like nfl qb prospect...that doesn't do it for me

Joe Montana 6'2", 205 lbs
Doug Flutie 5'10", 180 lbs

Truth is rarely are smaller QBs even given a shot. It is assumed they are just too small. For every 6'4", 225 lb QB that makes it there are 50 failed QBs with those measurements as well.

Wilson clearly has the talent. Seattle's offense will suit his talent's quite well.

keep in mind the hawks took what was talked about as the biggest reach in the 1st round with Bruce Irvine.

I was speaking from talent and height wise. Wilson can be put together a little more than White, but that doesn't mean he won't get abused. Again, Wilson can succeed where White didn't and I hope he does (Just not against the Fins) as I hear he's a great kid, plus I always tend to root for the David over Goliath. I'm speaking in terms of odds here, and the odds are against him.

In John Schneider's eyes he was, and he's among the few whose opinions count on such matters.

Because he knew nobody else was about to take Wilson in the 1st or 2nd round. Teams do a lot of digging to find out what other teams think of a player.

For every Tom Brady there are 50 failed QBs that are > 6'5".

Seattle will suit wilson, just as miami will suit tannehill...

I fully believe Russell Wilson will start one day. What he does from there, I don't know. I could see him being successful because he does have similar traits as Drew Brees.

Either way there's no commentary on the Matt Flynn thing to be had from the fact that Wilson will be one of the three guys competing for the start up there. They have a really high opinion of Russell, an unnaturally high opinion from a front office that has no problems going against the grain.

Is what it is.

The Bruce Irvin thing is deemed to be insane by a lot of people, self included, but there's the simple fact of the matter that if you needed pass rush from on one drive...a drive that you need to just not materialize in order to win the game...if there was one pass rusher from this Draft you would be able to throw out there for that one drive...it would be Irvin, most likely.

Probably the only drive you're going to get out of him for the game because he's got no stamina and I don't like his attitude, but there you have it.
