Did we really??

Except for the fact that Ireland was a stud when it came to drafting rounds 4-7. He sucked in the first 3 rounds but man he could find diamonds later.

He found marginal starters on a team that lacked so much talent that we would go on to have 5 consecutive non-winning seasons in a league built around parity. Jacksonville is currently fielding some pretty questionable players, should lavish praise be heaped on their GM because one of their 7th round picks is (according to espn's depth chart) starting?

Even Chris Clemons is going to look decent when you compare him to disasters like Gibril Wilson. Which was pretty much how Ireland earned the reverent respect of the majority of this forum: he'd screw up big, then patch up his screw up with borderline competence...and the forum would swoon on about how much better hes getting.

For Ireland to have been a "stud" at late drafting, he would have had to draft the likes of Geno Atkins, Kam Chancellor, Antonio Brown, Alterraun Vernon...a player along those lines(and thats just a list of players Ireland passed on in 2010). Chris Clemons, Reshad Jones, and Charles Clay dont cut it. I suppose Brian Hartline is Ireland's most successful late pick, but really, how could Ireland have known Hartline would go on to become the greatest receiver in the game of football who also cured cancer and figured out how to create sustainable energy? Going to have to put that pick down to blind luck...or perhaps divine influence(for people have claimed to have seen Hartline walk on water).

well if u are going to blast him for this then what about choosing Carpenter over Prater at the time

Yeah Carpenter cost the team some games in his last couple years in Miami. If only he had kicked as well back then as he is now up in Buffalo. Seems as though that is a common theme, Guys suck when they are with the Dolphins only to go and play lights out for another team. That's just life as a Miami Dolphins fan.

It was probably an Aponte decision to get a cheap rookie to replace Carp. Still a horrible decision that burns me all the time. Just like it used to with Mare. I hate financial decisions that get rid of good players.

What do I know though, I actually wanted the FSU kicker the year we drafted Sturgis and I don't even think he's in the league anymore is he?

And f*ck the Lions and their sorry kicker for missing 3 freaking FGs today! I am still stunned and pissed that the Bills stole that one.

She has nothing to do with those types of decisions.

Carpenter has very good mechanics. Special mechanics. It's like watching a golfer with a fantastic swing. Players like that are always eligible to rebound. I posted last summer 2013 in the related thread that Clay and Carpenter were the two most underrated players on the team, and that Carpenter would succeed elsewhere once we cut him.

Sturgis is more of a punch kicker. Not as free flowing as Carpenter. Hit, not swing. But I still think he's also underrated around here and will be successful. He is susceptible to pushes or especially pulls out of nowhere given that punch aspect to his delivery.
