Did Young dis Marino?

Maybe I was a little delusional (sp?) sitting in the hot sun at Fawcett stadium but I could have sworn that Young tried to dis Dan in his acceptance speech. He said something about winnning the Superbowl was the best feeling in the world - much better than winning an MVP or holding all the passing records. Now that's not word for word what he said (I'm still a little dizzy from the heat) but it had that jist. I think he was pissed that sooooo many people were there for Dan and just had to get one in on him.

I dunno maybe not - but then again if Dan would have went up before Steve there probably would have been only about 43 people left in the stands.
Young is a class guy and he would never intend what you suggest. Keep in mind Young wasn't a starter all the time and so he knew he had no chance at All Time records but he did have to live up to the unrealistic expectations of a city that thought Montana was God. I for one will admit I loved watching Young play. Kudos to him and our Dan on a great day

He won a superbowl, he has every right to say what he said.

Now c'mon now does that mean Trent Dilfer now gets to spout of too? I'm sure Young is a class act and didn't mean harm by what he said it just seemed like he worded what he said that way for ...?... anyway the look on Dan's face when he said it wasn't a joyful one.

So how exactly does a Dolphins fan rationalize the fact that in 10 of Marino's 18 career playoff games, he had two OR MORE interceptions???

It seems to me that the Dolphins didn't fail to win a Super Bowl DESPITE Marino, they failed to win a Super Bowl BECAUSE of Marino.

Maybe one day if you guys are lucky enough to witness TRUE GREATNESS, you'll understand where the critics are coming from.
And on a day full of class, comraderie and professionalism we get to this jouvenile and downright idiotic post. Miami lost some of those playoff games because the other team was simply better. Meaning all 53 guys on the other side collectively as a team played better. To suggest Miami never won a Super Bowl because of one of those 53 players is the same as suggesting Montana won his 4 or Bradshaw despite the efforts of the other guys on their squad and did it all themselves. Let it be noted this was a horrible, thougthless post.

All of those are nothing but opinions, most are wrong.

He had a suite on sitting directly into the sun for 3 hours. Of course he may have looked a little unconfortable at times. You're looking way too much into this. Young is a class act and would never do what you're suggesting here.

Well maybe it's like I said in my first post "maybe I'm a little delusional from sitting in the hot sun."

Wow...just wow...why would Steve Young want to diss Dan Marino? This was his day, too, you know.

Doesn't make sense.

I realize it's an unpopular opinion to have on this fine site but jouvenile and idiotic??? How so???? Please enlighten me but keep in mind, I'm not your enemy. I'm just a guy with an opposing point of view. I have an open mind though. I want to understand why you guys view Marino the way you do. I doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not following your logic. Yes football is the ultimate TEAM sport but sometimes SPECIAL players perform heroically and lift their teams to improbably victories.

Let's take a look at Marino's lone Super Bowl performance. He was 29-50 for 318 yards, with 1 TD and 2 Int's. His QB rating was in the 60's.

The Dolphins lost that game 38-16. My question is this: If instead of throwing two key interceptions, Marino had led the Dolphins to pay dirt on those two possessions.........How would that have changed the game???

My problem with Marino is NOT that he never won a Super Bowl. Winning the Super Bowl is a team effort. My biggest complaint about Marino is that he never ELEVATED his game in the big spots. The Dolphins didn't lose in the playoffs DESPITE Marino having monster games. The Dolphins lost in the playoffs, because they were so dependant on Marino and he repeatedly played poorly in the big spots.

There's a difference between losing and playing well and losing and playing poorly. Marino not only lost, he played poorly most of the time.

Like I mentioned earlier, how do you rationalize the fact that in 10 of his 18 career playoff games he threw 2 OR MORE Int's??? Oh yeah, by the way.....The Dolphins were 1-9 in those games. Big surprise.

Steve "I am not as tall as Dan" totally dissed DAN because once again that lucky SOB was holding the clipboard! I am so glad 10 people showed for his induction.

:shakeno:

I think Young could have said it differently .... it didn't come off as nice as we know Steve Young to be. Grit Young's speech was wayyyy tooo long.
