Direct Tv NFL Package Going up!

In any event, $219, $199, whatever it costs, I don't care. My wife and I are buying our first home and moving in in August. She has, bless her heart, consented to getting DirectTV and the NFL Sunday Ticket. This is largely because it ensures that I won't drop $50 at The Distillery every Sunday.

same here...

Why did you cancel due to the Titans game? There wasn't anything that DirectTV could do about that...they are contractually obligated to show the NFL games on Sundays during College Football season. You burned yourself, dude!

That's not how it works. I didn't burn myself either. I got all the money back. I just enjoyed sundays at a sports bar.

Does anybody know if there is currently any antitrust litigation regarding the Sunday Ticket monopoly? I'm pretty sure it's covered because as the sole provider of the NFL package in the United States DirecTV is able to set the prices. As we've seen it more than triple since its inception this is quite likely that they are abusing it.

Consider that Sunday Ticket is offered in Canada by digital cable providers (such as Eastlink and Rogers) and that their prices are substantially cheaper (even in Canadian dollars). I really, really, can't wait for this stupid monopoly to end. Once DirecTV has the monopoly removed, we'll again be able to use any satellite provider and hopefully any digital cable provider.

There's no monopoly.

The NFL sold the rights to that programming package to DirecTV, just as they sold other packages to Fox, ABC/ESPN, etc.

The DTV deal is no more monopoly than any other. Why don't you guys that keep b!tching about this just get the Ticket and dump cable? WTF? If cable got the Ticket, you would have to pay as much or more anyway!

As much as that whole situation sucked, it really wasn't DirecTV's fault though. They couldn't air the game because of college football. It was out of their control.

Hey, that's what I did, and it's one of the best moves I've ever made. I'll NEVER, EVER go back to cable. EVER.

I have the Sunday ticket with no other package. I even have it on 2 tv's. The first season I got the whole shebang free for 3 months, then dropped everything but the ticket. That was in 2000. I've had it ever since. Ticket only. Not sure if there is a new rule.

DirecTV has a monopoly, and can make anyone bend over as far as they want if they want the NFL. I'd pay for it up to at least $300.

DirecTV won the bidding for this programming package, just as any network or cable or satellite provider could have if they had bid more.

Accusing DirecTV of having a monopoly makes as much sense as accusing Fox of having one because you can't see their games on NBC.

Amen to that. And before you complain too much about the annual price increases, that DirecTV deal provided a huge chunk of new money to the league...

which distributed it through revenue sharing to the teams...

which increased the league's salary cap...

which minimizes the amount we'll be over said cap in the future...

which means fewer of our key guys will be cut because of the WannSpiel era contracts.

For some people, DTV is not an option. People that live in apartments cant very well put up a dish so cable is their only option. Also, some mobile home communities have contracts with either cable or Dishnetwork and wont allow you to put up a DTV dish. Even if you own your own property, you may not have the necessary clear view of the southern sky.
Then there are people like me who have cable Internet service and extended basic cable TV is only a few dollars more. I'll probably still have DTV before the season starts since there are no Nationally telivised Dolphin games this year and because it is Saban's first season. All the while though I'll gripe and groan that Im basically paying for the other channels twice.

Look, where I live it's a 30 minute drive to a sports bar that usually shows the dolphins...if you get there and you are wrong...you miss the first half of the game (another half hour to get somewhere with all the games)....I would probably pay $800/yr for the ticket. It's great....cause after the fins game, win or lose, I get to watch the jills and jets lose...priceless.....I'll stick with DTV and the ticket, until it's busted up....next year Hi-Def!!

Sunday Ticket is PRICELESS for a native Floridian in Pittsburgh. I would probably pay 500 bucks a season for it or more, but don't tell them that.

Me Too!!! I'm on the automatic renewal plan!!!!! For a phin fan in oklahoma it the s@$%. Sept through January it's Dolphin and Sooner Football every weekend in my house.

As much as I'm not happy about the $100 mark up this year for the HD games, I couldn't live without my Sunday Ticket. Guess the price of beer and food for my friends just went up this year.
