Disapointed with Hickey this offseason

I would have been far happier...resigning...Carroll

You wanted to go into the season with Carroll as a starting cornerback? You're committing one of the cardinal sins of homerism: overestimating the talent of your team's players. Carroll isn't starter material; he's a backup.

Nolan Carroll has been an ascending player. He's shown progress year after year. He's a capable no.2 corner. Carroll to my recollection only got beat it up real bad by Julio Jones last year(before he was injured), and that's about it. He only allowed a 48% completion rate last season. That's quite good.

Considering the money in which he was had at, we probably should've brought him back.

Not sure how these signings will work out, but the most important pick up this off season, might be our new trainer.

LT: Albert> Martin or McKinnie
LG: Smith> Brenner
CB: Finnegan> Patterson (and Finnegan is 1 year younger)
S: Delmas> Clemons ( and Delmas is 1 year younger)
DT: re-signed Starks and signed Mitchell

We're as good or better (and younger) at every position addressed. What's not to like?

Now we need to address the right side of our OL, add a LB and a RB and it will have been an outstanding offseason. I'd like another WR as well but it's not a necessity....

I'd venture to say that Hickey and Grimes are the best offeseason moves so far.
Re-sign Clabo? keep Carroll and Clemons? No thank you.

There is always at least one

If you look at improvements or upgrades through FA so far, over last year's team, Albert is the only guaranteed one. Grimes and Starks are not upgrades over themselves. Mitckell over Soliai? Maybe. Delmas over Clemons? maybe. Smith over Jerry? Maybe. Finnigen over anyone? Doubtful.

Yeah, there is some disappointment.

Don't mean to be a Debbie downer, but I am disapointed with all the offseason moves besides our resignings of Starks & Grimes.

We signed an injury prone LT and FS, an over the hill CB at an overpriced contract, who was awful last year and a DT Earl Mitchell, again overpriced in a year where the draft is deep at DT.

I would have been far happier with Anthony Collins and resigning Clemons and Carroll, while drafting a DT in draft. Would have saved a ton of money and IMO been no worse off.

I know I'll get shot down for this but I believe after initial frenzy of wanting everyone in FA, once the season kicks off many will be posting the same

Is getting a cheap LT what you wanted? Collins may turn out to be great, but that would be a risky pick. He's been a career backup, that's all. If Hickey sat on his hands in FA and waited a week after the Ravens and everyone else signed all the premium LT's on the market, then signed Collins, and Collins ended up not being able to handle the position, you'd be screaming.

Carroll, I'm happy to see go. We all watched in frustration season after season. Yes, last year he improved, but I'm not going to disagree with this move, in fact I'm relieved.

I may not agree 100% with all the moves (for the record though I'm about 85%) but I would only be disappointed if we left substantial money in the bank. I mean I want Hickey to have to call his parents to borrow some cash once it's all said and done.

You win by retaining your OWN good players and DRAFTING good players. You don't win in free agency.

Yes, signing Starks and Grimes, and replacing Long with Albert (which is finally what we did), was huge. And it's enough.

I did like Clemons, though. Finnigen is a good hire just for the fact that he can teach the rookies the work ethic, and attitude, and technique, just like Grimey did last year. We have rookie cornerbacks that need to get on the field. Carroll isn't going to teach anyone, anything.

It's only natural that at least one person here doesn't like anything Hickey has done. It'd be impossible to have everyone feel things have been perfect and that's okay.

Finnegen is the biggest maybe of them all and he'll likely be one of the signings that'll make or break Philbin/Hickey, so far anyway, we still have a good amount of cash to spend.

You win by improving and upgrading your talent level. I like Albert, Mitchell, and Smith, s-so on Delmas but, hate the Finnegen signing, and believed we could have added one more on the OL by going a little higher in money.

We cut one 30 year old CB with injury problems who has had 4 good games in 2 years to save $5.4M. Then, we sign a 30 year old CB with injury problems who has had 4 good games in 2 years (and was worse overall) t a 2 year $11M deal. Go figure.

Nothing wrong with what OP said. The primary goal for Hickey this offseason was to acquire veteran leadership. Can we all agree he did that to some degree?

They should have invested more in the oline but it is what it is now...more of a established veteran presence
