Do not resign Tua

Reading this site after a loss is always good for a couple laughs.

Are there better QBs out there than Tua? For certain yes.

Are they available? Absolutly not. Because they are pretty damn rare. And you aren't getting a blue chip prospect with our draft assets either.

Its always easy to undervalue what you have. The 'grass is always greener' syndrome.

Tua is more than good enough to win with. Is he a League MVP or Hall of Famer? Most likely not but he is a heck of a lot better than the ghost of Russ Wilson or anyone else that another NFL team is letting walk away.

Like it or not, Tua is our guy for at least a couple more seasons.

I would agree. I think there isn’t anyone else out there. I think we franchise him next year but that’s about it. I’m not paying him Herbert type money
He's under contract next year. What we lose by just letting him play his contract out next year is cap flexibility. Instead of paying him the $23M he is set to make, we could probably lower that number a good $10M which could be used elsewhere. That's the risk you take though

This isn’t about if Tua is our QB for the next couple of seasons. This is about if you sign Tua to a huge contract extension this upcoming offseason. I wouldn’t do it. I would wait until after next season to decide if he is the long term answer at QB because once you sign him to a huge extension you are basically stuck with him for like the next four to five seasons.

How can anybody talk about the QB or even the OL or the WRs. We gave up 56 freaking points. Unless you expect your offense to get 70 every game, this isn't the time to complain about the QB. Their QB stood back there for 5 seconds every play and found receivers so wide open it was funny. We never stopped them. They were able to take all kinds of chances on D because if it didn't work, Lamar would just drive them for another score.

Fair enough.

I would not sign him to a premire contract but even an above average QB contract is going to make eyes water one way or the other. Its a tough call and let's say he plays hardball. Do you oversign him for an extra 10 mill a year over what you think he is worth (I'm just playing make believe numbers)? If you don't resign him you hit the reset button on a team with a lot of high priced veterans while you look for a replacement.

Its pretty dang hard to find even an above average QB. That is why they cost so much. We could very easilly end up looking like New Orleans after letting him go.

Is that worth not paying him a tier higher each year than you think he is worth?

I personally think an extra 10 million (or whatever) a year may be worth over paying to keep the train moving in the current direction. Which after next week should be AFC East champions.

A great QB elevates the entire team. If the team gives up 56 that's 100% on Tua. He needed to have 3-4 drives lasting 10 minutes each to protect the defense.

I would let him play on his 5th year option next season and then worry about it. A lot will depend on how he plays next year, I think he is due to make like $23 million next year.

There he is, the only Dolphin fan on this board that did not drink today lol. Holy crap, someone with some common sense. You are my hero.

You mean how many playoffs wins does Miami have? Did Tua give up 56 points?
What does Tua have to do with the dolphins of the 2000s and 2010s? You're making too many excuses. Tua throws the most untimely interceptions. And for the millionth time, please tell me his career record against winning teams. Tuanons are in complete denial of that fact

Unfortunately, the best option for the team, is to franchising him. To me he is like 'everyone is a great trader in a bull market". It is not reasonable to compare him to ANY other QB, he must stand on his own. I was hoping he would start to come into his own, of course, I kind of count this as year 1.5, so there is hope, but, this is a Mind issue, and my fear is that he cannot overcome it, if that is the case, not good, it may be 2-3 years of frustration.

He has to be able to place himself in a mindset that he only lives in the moment of the play he is in, and shut everything out, I also think he tends to lack focus and intensity at times, and that is when he throws floaty balls for pick sixes, and yes I have been trained to read body language.

I am sorry to bring this up, but I saw Tua in pads, standing next to Dan M. and Dan is 62, and you tend to shrink as you get older, Dan is more than 4" taller that our Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, he is kind short, not 6' at all.

No QB in the draft will produce like Tua- if they did that people like you would be bitching about that QB
So basically our ceiling with Tua is another 9 to 10 win season next year and 1st round exit in the playoffs. Yay

Tua may continue to get better but you cant fix size like you said and you cant fix Tua's inability to extend plays or lack of mobility. Tua is not a modern QB
