I would still look at Wade Smith or a veteran guard.

The Dolphins have three (or four if you count Brennan) competing for two spots....eventually you will see some separation and the two best will emerge....Blocking is very difficult when the opponents do not have pads (no where to grab, punch will slide off...)

Also getting beat by Starks is kind of a right of passage for the Phins lineman....finally, our d-line is pretty ****ing good...

You can use your Joe Biden GIF's, but Sam Brenner is not an answer, Smith may not be and while I am a big Garner guy, he is not a full time player. Wade Smith knows the system under Coach Benton and he had a good season last year. Daryn Colledge is another possible pick up.

There is a reason those players are still Free Agents....

Also...Turner, Smith, and Thomas will be the last three standing...Wade Smith is not an option...the goal is to get better not more average....

Couldn't agree more. Smith or colledge would be a good addition in case the young guys don't work out. Theyd come cheap 2

Shelley Smith has a history of not grading out well in pass pro. It's a concern. I am not sure Sam Brenner is any better lest anyone forget what Kyle Williams did to him.

Randy Starks obliterating interior o linemen for sport is something we are used to. I had already set my watch to it.

I think the OP confused Earl Mitchell (DT) with Shelley Smith (OG). Big Earl is Soliai's replacement and there was pretty high demand for his services and he went pretty quickly in free agency. When the market demand is pretty strong - it's a good sign. I'm interested to see how he goes on the field. I'm optimistic.

Shelly is not a starting caliber OG, never was and never will be. Thomas and either Brenner or Turner are your day one starters unless you bring someone in.

It is playing out? lol. It is June, it is OTAs, no pads, no contact. Nothing is "playing out" right now.

This is no surprise. The guy was poor at pass pro last year. He ranked below both our guards at pass pro, which is very bad.

But it's super early yet. There is no way he can go from very bad pass pro to pitching a shutout against Starks in like a week. We don't even have full pads yet ... and the kid has a ways to go.

Let's give Benton some time to teach the guy. Hopefully, we will see steady improvement throughout the preseason and by the regular season he will become a competent pass protector. He is already a good run blocker.

31 other teams have passed as well....including teams with poor G situations...in fact I can't remember if either had any visits. Shelly on the other hand was getting plenty of looks and offers.

Also, how is it playing out....two practices...no pads and you already know...poor child...trolls so hard....fails even harder...

career backup with huge pass pro issues who was signed to a very low contract. If we get anything out of him great, if not meh he will be solid depth and will be good for certain run plays

Im not sure his contract is so low based on he is a career backup. We should be concerned but not because of his play in shorts
