Do you really want to compete with at least 6 other owners for a better HC?

Think long and hard because we have been on this train before. As of now you have Washington, Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota, Houston, and Tampa Bay are ALL looking for head coaches. If that's REALLY what you want then get ready for thinking the coach you want is going to sign here only to learn that he signed somewhere else and was only using Miami to drive up his value.

Wanny, Cameron, Saban, Sparano, we keep doing the same thing OVER and OVER again and getting the same results. Tell me how it's not nuts to want to do it all over again?

This happens every year. If we subscribe to your way of thinking, no year is a good year to hire a new coach.

We have a lot of FA's and there is descension starting to form in the ranks. Not too mention players will have the whole offseason to simmer on Bully Gate, all of the distractions, injuries and dropping the ball in the last 2 weeks.

I HONESTLY question if some of the players, such as Big Paul and Starks, may have underperformed because of how they have been handled in the past and have decided they want greener pastures or want change at the top. I was thinking about this earlier when reading about the horrid run defense. Big Paul has ALWAYS been a player that needs motivation. And Starks has gotten the shaft from the FO a few times in different ways. Both want long term security and they are at a point in their careers where THIS is the last great contract they can sign. I don't think they want that contract handled by Ireland or this FO. It's weird that they played flat in a moment they should be building their resume. So it makes me think they want to stay here.

I don't think every piece is bad. And I believe we have enough inexperience in our HC and QB to command a 3rd year. BUT I do think we need some surgical excising in certain areas to remove problems.

Here me out. I don't want more of the same from this staff. But at the same time, if we blow it up then we blow it all up. Including Tannehill and a decent haul of players. We HAVE a lot of talent. Maybe more than we've had in a long time.

The problem isn't talent. We have holes and need more depth. And our roster is not in balance. The short yardage aspect of our roster is deficient. But it's also indicative of this finesse style of offense we have employed. That needs to be fixed. We need blocking TEs, a smash mouth FB, new OLC, new OC and other overhauls on the offense. Sad to say, but I think we miss Fasano. And we need to figure out exactly WHAT is the problem on defense. Why is Jordan not playing? Is this simply a hard and fast rule that new guys must sit and earn playing time, regardless of draft position? Must they sit and learn one year, regardless?

We don't have 53 draft picks and 53 FA's to resign. So, whomever is HC, we can NOT blow it all up. They must be able to work with this group of core players.

I also want us to bring back Keller. I believe he CAN be the seam TE we need. And I love this kid's heart. He wanted to play for us. We need to stand behind this decision and give this another chance.

I now believe Sherman's only role on this team would be as a QB Coach. But I'm starting to get the vibe that Tannehill may no longer believe in him as a man.

I believe with all of the picks and money spent on this team, the inexperience of the HC and QB and the already remedied problem of Bully Gate, we need to address these areas and some I've forgot and give one more year of Philbin and Tannehill:

1) Fix the Run Defense
2) Sign Big Paul and Starks to contracts. Stop pulling on their strings from year to year. Commit.
A) I'm telling you, Big Paul is a not a player you want to lose. He gives you scheme flexibility and he's one of the best NT in the game, very underrated.
B) Starks has been a professional and loyal Dolphin. He has intangibles we need. And he's played ball with us for a long time. Needs rewarding. Its as much as a PR move as a talent move.
3) Fix the short yardage offense
A) We need a battering ram FB who can catch when needed. Not signing Leach was a disaster. It was in our hands and we got too cute.
B) We need to develop Sims as a better blocker and catcher. He has a lot of potential that simply needs time.
C) We need another blocking TE who can catch when needed. Said to say, we miss Fasano's utility.
4) Fix the offensive line.
A) Keep McKinnie as a mentor and use him as a starter for as long as effective. His presence gave this line some confidence. Keep him for a year or two then pasture.
B) Draft 2 or 3 lineman.
C) Sign a FA or 2.
D) Year 2 for Dallas Thomas better vindicate the pick. Trial by fire. Get him on the field.
E) We need a G with a nasty streak. We need a leader.
F) Fire the OLC. Bully Gate should have never happened. A man with only 9 or so guys to manage should have a better feel of the pulse of said men.
G) We need a MASSIVE infusion of talent, leadership and attitude on the OLine. 2 draft picks, 3 FAs. And we shouldn't be afraid to sign a BIG FA. Fat Albert?
H) We don't need an elite OLine. We need a consistent and effective OLine. Reducing sacks by 20 is the goal. Get better first, then be the best.
5) Demote Sherman to QB Coach or fire him. Seems his only real use for this team is his relationship with Tannehill. Simple question, Tanny do you want Sherman as QB Coach? No? Fired.
6) Fire current QB Coach.
7) Along with FBs, we need a house cleaning at RB.
A) Fire RB coach.
B) Cut Daniel Thomas IMMEDIATELY. I'm beginning to think he is the player version of Ireland. Can't get rid of him and no reason to keep him.
C) I think Gillislee and Miller are too much of the same mold. We need a battering ram short yardage guy who can handle a heavy load if needed. Maybe 2?
8) Dion Jordan, get on the field. Period. End of topic.
9) Do NOT carry just 4 WRs on our active roster. Gibson comes back and Matthews STAYS. Carry 5 WRs. Never seen a team who relies so heavily on the pass only carry 4 WRs and let promising prospects get plucked from PS. That is IDIOTIC.
10) The Egnew experiment is over. End of topic.
11) The secondary. Get better while losing a spot, at least.
A) BIG delima: Can Patterson stay healthy? God I love this kid when he's in the game. I think you have to role the dice and keep him while, at the same time, giving up one of the DB spots to WR5.
B) Nolan Carroll. Thanks, but good bye.
C) Time for our 2 2013 draft picks to step it up or find another job.
D) This group needs 1 or 2 players added to compete in camp. A FA or 2. I don't think we can waste picks on the secondary. Too many holes elsewhere.
E) Run to Brent Grimes with a suit case full of money. Seriously, how freaking lucky did Ireland get with this gamble?! Don't skimp on the tip when the bill is due. Money NOW.
12) We need competition at LB.
13) We need competition at K. Someone brought in with the belief they could win the job. Sadly, we did Carpenter a favor. He went 33 of 36 this year. Sounds idiotic, but maybe bring him back? Point made with Sturgis?

There is things I've missed, but these are the things I think directly led to us losing winnable games.

Again, I'm on the fence with Philbin. But for me, firing Philbin is more about starting over. And I think we need to give this one more year before we do that AGAIN.

I think its stupid for continually blowing up our team. We need to seriously give our best effort to fix the other problems we have that are easily fixed and obviously led to us losing games.

Year 3 is very big for QBs and WRs. A running game can be fixed in ONE YEAR. So, fix the OLine and running game, give Tannehill one more year and give him short yardage personnel.

I don't care what the outcome is next year. We owe to ourselves and to our credibility to try to fix the problems around Philbin and Tannehill and see if we are really close to something or need to start over.

If we start over next year, we would have less competition for HCs. It may be in our best interest to wait.

Seriously, we did not address major problems in our gameplan, played with a FA team, lost an impact player in Keller, endured a scandal and lost every game but 2 or 3 because we gave the game away. And still could have finished 10 - 6.

We have pieces gentlemen. If we can't FIX our current KNOWN problems, then we do not have the structure and organizational resources in place to start over from scratch with all NEW problems.

In my mind, we can't fire Ireland without Philbin. And we can't fire Philbin without Ireland. So, if you fire either than you blow it up.

Quite frankly, we've never had a roster this deep with this much talent for a LONG, LONG time. Regardless who's prints are on this team, we need to give this roster one more chance.

If we blow it up, we've got to wait 3 more years to get back to this point. So, what is one more year of trying going to cost us when we are so close to the playoffs?

And let's stop pretending like a playoff birth wouldn't change our minds about the entire situation. Winning cures everything. A playoff birth this year would have changed a lot of perceptions.

So, put the whole team on notice and fix the problems. If it fails in year 3, by all means, go nuclear.

Is our coach great at adjustments like Harbaugh in SF, Belichick in NE, or crafty like Pete Carroll in SEA or Payton in NO?

No? Then I don't want him.

What's funny is no one wanted Belichick or Carrol to be their coaches. No fans anyway. Winning has a way of making dumb guys into geniuses.

But it always begins with the OC then HC then repeat.....who would want to coach here? The only way a good coach would coach here is if he was getting a crazy contract that he couldn't get somewhere else...Chud just walked away with 10.5 million dollars, makes that firing a little easier, the next coach will think twice before taking that job, taking it could end your HC career

What needs to happen is that Ireland needs to be fired and whoever the new GM is, should be the one to decide Philbin's fate. When you have a guy like Ireland that brings so much negative attention to the team, there's no justification for keeping him around. Its been said that in league circles, people are astounded he even still has a job. That reflects very poorly on the organization.

Wanny, Cameron, Saban, Sparano, we keep doing the same thing OVER and OVER again and getting the same results. Tell me how it's not nuts to want to do it all over again?

I'm pretty much 100% confident that Philbin is not the man to turn this franchise around. So IMO, you do whatever you can to bring in somebody that can do the job. I realize not everybody will agree with me, but that list of people you mentioned range from beyond pathetic to completely inept and we would've been better served firing each one of them after their first season (actually never hiring them at all would've been better)

18 out of 32 NFL teams finished with a .500 record or below in 2013. You act as if firing Sparano and Wanny were moves that made the team better. Did they? How is it that we keep getting in situations where people think ANY coach would be better than the one we have, yet every time, they haven't been better.

Perhaps sometimes firing everybody and starting over ISN'T the answer. Look at Carolina, I live in Charlotte and can tell you with 100% certainty that the majority of Panther fans wanted Rivera fired as recently as the first half of THIS year. What a huge mistake that would have been.

Not firing a coach or GM that isn't getting the job done SOLELY for the sake of team continuity is madness.

It's not a bad question to ask. It would absolutely suck to settle for a mediocre coach this offseason because that's all that is available. I'd rather give Philbin another year (but get rid of Ireland and Sherman), see what he can do, and if he doesn't perform, look at next year's options. I don't want to get stuck with 2-3 years of another Wanny/Cameron/Sparano and go through this all over again.

That said, if a good coach is available this offseason and willing to come here, you go for it. I also agree that we have very little chance of landing a good coach if Ireland (and his Napoleonic asshat reputation) is still around.

So, do you think things will be any different next year? Get real. Get it over now.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm just saying that I don't want to settle for another crappy coach just to make a change. If there's someone who we really think coaches better than Philbin this year, then I agree we should go for it. If not, I'd rather just see if he can do better with a new OC and GM.

Ron Rivera

Was he kept solely for the sake of continuity? I highly doubt it. Richardson and the front office liked what they saw of him in 2012. After seeing the style of coaching from Philbin and his assistants, I can't say the same.
