DolfanDaveInATX said:We didn't cut him before the draft because we weren't absolutely sure we could find an upgrade there. Now that we have that upgrade in Roth, there is no way we're going to pay $1.9 million in base salary for our fourth DE. He's going to replace about two-thirds of that with incentives, or he's going to be gone.
True, but I think we may have enough to sign our picks and a June 1st cut or two without having to release Bowens. This is David's last year under contract. I would rather keep him then cut him, but I am leaning to trading him instead of keeping him. So, trade or keep, no cut.Deus Ex Dolphin said:Sorry, but with Holliday and Roth? No way Bowens is worth almost $2 million this year. If he wants to take half that? Then we have decent depth at DE with him here, but I won't lose sleep at night if he gets traded off for a 6th rounder or just cut for not lowering his salary.
Holliday has also shown he can pay in the NFL, at least when he was with the Packers, and being on a line with Jason Taylor does wonders for a guy. :D
Frankly, I'd rather use Bowens money on a good safety and/or corner who gets released come June 1st. I've got no one in particular in mind, but having cap space to spend on a couple guys then could really help this team.

First off, D. Bowen has proven he can play in the NFL..Roth we know nothing about when it comes to playing in the NFL..he's small for the DE and may not be able to play every down. He has a good motor, but so does D. bowens, I don't think he was a major problem last year, but he's clearly being labeled a marked man when Saban brought in so many DE's and then drafted another..I'd prefer he found more DT's..but that's just me.
