Yes.

Doesn't matter how many few good FA's and late-round "diamonds in the rough" he's found. The fact remains -- Ireland is Real Bad at addressing team needs. For a team that's always "a few pieces away", you have to consider, is he really finding the right pieces?

This last draft by him turned out to be choc-filled with year 1 major busts.
Blowing up the LB position turned out to be a regression in defense. It "saved some cap-space" but lost production.
Wallace turned out to be an over-priced mismatch for Tannehill, much like Brandon Marshall was for Chad Henne.
Ireland's managing of the O-Line, With or Without the Jonathan Martin fiasco -- franchise record for sacks, and a crappy run-game.

I understand that it's the coaches jobs to get these players to work together and make it happen, but when you add too many bad ingredients to a meal -- it's difficult to make it taste right.

Now, in Ireland's defense, who knows how many of these decisions were also decided by the coaching staff? If Philbin and the gang were pushing him to make these picks, then they're even more to blame for the mediocrity.

I posted in another thread....why does everyone assume starting from scratch makes the organization an expansion team? Eagles, Chiefs, Chargers. All 3 made changes and are now playoff bound. Turning it around in the NFL and it taking years when you "start over" is a thing of the past. The team can be turned around quickly even if they dumped
Ireland and or Philbin. Such a ridiculous misconception.

Two of those 3 teams, were led by Veteran qbs. At what point, does it matter that Tannehill is the qb of this team? Eventually you people need to hold Tannehill responsible for his decision making on the field. Eventually, this team needs to decide if he's the answer or not. No more kid gloves for Tannehill, accountability is on tap for the guy. IF Philbin and company should go, so should the choker playing QB.

Has he drafted any probowl players?

Has he drafted any true difference makers.

Nope, all our best players were FA. He can't hit a draft pick to save his life, almost as bad as Tannehill's deep ball..

A FA success is just as good or better than a draft pick success, especially if it's a guy who was a nobody that didn't command big $'s, like Wake. But most of his FA pickups where he did lay out the $'s haven't worked well. How much has he blown on mediocre LB's?

To me, you can't base it on the team's W-L record, and especially not on how they performed when under pressure. A lot of things go into that, such as coaching and play calling. The GM's job is to provide the raw material, the talent, and it is then up to the coaches, and even the player leaders, to shape that raw material to produce wins. The pathetic end of season collapse is on the coaches, not on Ireland.

To me, what you should look at is how the "big bets", where he stuck his neck out, have worked out. I see three:

Tannehill: Tannehill was considered a reach where he was picked, so this was a big bet. So far, this has worked out fair at best. He was expected to make a big jump in 2013, and didn't. He will likely be our starter again next year, but his failures have been well chronicled - poor pocket presence, poor deep ball, etc.

Wallace: The amount of money we paid him made him a big bet. A lot of insiders predicted bust. This one is also a big question mark. He didn't produce what we expected for the money paid, but he is a deep ball specialist, and Tannehill throws a terrible deep ball. But Ireland should have known that - an Anquan Boldin type would probably have been better for Tannehill.

Jordan - Ireland stuck his neck out by trading up to #3 to get him. We've gotten little for it so far.

Ireland has been a C+ GM, maybe a B- at best. Super Bowl teams have GM's that earn an A. We need to just keep trying until we find that guy.

No, not until after next year to decide.

Sherman, yes. Unacceptable use of O talent and an overindulgence in plays utilizing O lack of talent.
