Does the Raider/Houston trade affect Surtain's value?

Texans | Buchanon Acquired - from www.KFFL.com

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports the Houston Texans have acquired CB Phillip Buchanon in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. In exchange, the Texans have sent second- and third-round choices in this year's draft to Oakland. Buchanon still has two years remaining on his original rookie deal, with base salaries of $700,000 for 2005 and $800,000 for 2006.

Buchanan is younger than Surtain, and carries a much lower base salary. So, we may not be able to get the exact same value. But, it does seem to solidify that a 4th round pick is definitely not enough.

do you think the fins would be willing to have surtain, and his cap #, back for next season?

i dont. they will deal him for something. and if the best offer is a mid 4th rounder............ they might have to take it.

buchannan is younger and just as good as surtain.
they got a 2nd and a 3rd rounder.

an example of a DUMB team: the jets trading a starting former pro-bowl MLB to the vikings for a 7th rounder. LOL.

agree with you on the second part. the jets were just dumping the guy. as for the first quote: buchanan "just as good" as surtain? even if you don't think surtain is all that, let's make the young buchanan prove himself for a coupla years...

What has me puzzled is, the Raiders need to move Woodson & his 10 mil franchise $$. But they trade their other CB who is very cap friendly. They must have a trade partner for Woodson, then they will need a vet CB

Saban wont let his image rot like that in front of the hole NFL while we are still after trading the #2 ovr all, Saban wont take that just because he doesnt want to look soft.

so you think there is a chance that surtain, and his cap #, will be in a dolphin uniform this comming season?

i know you didn't ask me, but yeah, i think there is a chance. and not because i want to keep him. i think saban wants to get what he asks for and he'll remain stubborn.

Maybe or someone caves in for a 2nd rounder or a 4th this year and a 2nd next or Saban wont trade him, if he ever does take less than value, that would atleast be after the draft, and then teams will be more willing to give in to a second rounder + a second day pick. Why until after the draft? So he will not damage our chances to a fair trade on the #2 overall. Besides its not like we HAVE to move him, if we cut D Thompson and D Bowens and pull the trade on the #2 overall, we will have the cap space, and enough picks to fill our needs.

What other teams like the Chiefs will learn, is that Saban will not back down. He will absolutely not take just a 4th. Minimum a this years 4th and next years 3rd. He is not out to 'dump' Surtain as I have heard from other teams fans. I truly believe he will take Surtain and his cap value.

Yes, but Phillip Buchanon has requested a trade for a while now. He was unhappy there.

Doubt it very seriously, a big reason why Buchanon was traded was contract. I doubt that Raiders would trade Buchanon only to take on Surtains salary.

Actually the (big)reason he was traded was the disparraging comments made about the system and organization last season...
