Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey mutually agree to seek a trade

trade him now and the dead money is 25mill.......trade him post June and we save 9mill with 6mill dead money this year but a huge dead money hit in 2026

To me, the dead money is what it is.

It really doesn't matter all that much if we take the hit all at once or spread it out in this specific situation.

If they go full rebuild theres no way they will keep Grier and McDaniel...they will wipe the slate clean like they did back in 2019, except this time hopefully get a GM/coach that know how to build a team from inside out.

Well I mean hopefully totally wipe it clean, not half ass it by keeping one or the other.
I agree 100%, but if Grier and McD don't have assurances and are operating as if their jobs are on the line, which they should be, why trade one of your only potentially elite veteran players and leave yet another massive hole to fill? Trading Ramsey would also almost guarantee a Hill trade because he's not going to sit around and be a good teammate again on a non-contender.

Not to mention that a Ramsey trade would almost require taking a CB in the first round, which would trickle down and not allow them to best address the OL and DL needs. 2025 is going to be a ****-show.

Back to football……

I like Jalen Ramsey a lot even as a 30 year old corner. I don’t think he fits the normal criteria for the 30 year old drop off at the position, due to his versatility to eventually transition to safety which is what I always envisioned with him towards the last phase of his career. However, we are CLEARLY in a “soft rebuild” transition and getting a day 2 pick for an aging corner making a ton of money is good business in that sense.

Will Johnson makes sense and he played in a similar scheme at Michigan so it’d be a seamless fit. Jahdae Barron also makes a ton of sense as he is a high character leader who can play and make an impact all over the secondary. Both are playmakers which we also lack in the secondary.

I thought we needed a corner as it is so now we need two. Defensive line is basically an emergency. Offensive line needs help. Need at least one safety. Need a power running back. If we trade Tyreek we’d need a receiver.

Well…. Another hole to fill.

Sucks. At this rate I am perfectly fine moving on from Tyreek. Just rip the band aid

I am fine with moving on from any player age 28+ who has plus trade value.

I don’t expect the Dolphins to be a playoff team in 2025. It appears they do not expect that either based on their offseason approach.

It is time to transition into yet another rebuild. Hopefully we prioritize the trenches first and foremost this time around. Although I like Johnson and Barron quite a bit, I wouldn’t be married to drafting a corner at 13 regardless of what happens with Ramsey. The team is going to suck regardless so just pick the BPA for the next build.

It is becoming more and more likely that our starting corners are two of Cam Smith, Storm Duck, and a rookie with Kohou in the nickel. That is a recipe for disaster especially if you can’t get 17 games out of Chubb and JP. The pressure coming from the front 7 needs to be immense.

We have 3 picks on day one and two…OL DL and CB

This is why I’d love to trade down and grab another top 100 player pref a starting safety…this draft is low on stars but high on average to above average starters which we desperately need
After He goes cb is the priority over safety.

Yea thats what doesnt make sense about this whole thing, cause Grier and McDaniel are operating like they have job security when they absolutely shouldnt. I really think Ross told Brandon Shore to reel in Griers spending and make sure he doesnt ruin our cap situation for whoever takes over in 2026 if this year we dont progress and win a playoff game. So this is a year to get the books right, dont take on any long term money, get a comp pick or two, trade vets for a pick and then reset with hopefully a new GM/coach combo in 2026.

I just dont get how Grier and McDaniel are ok with this being the plan, unless they think the team is much better than it showed last year and that they have a monster draft incoming and with that draft they can really make a turnaround, cause I fail to see the reason for optimism otherwise.

Suits me just fine.

I actually like the player on Gameday, but he has really never been "happy" anywhere he has played. He has no allegiance or loyalty to the Dolphins, which is fine, but then there is no reason for the org., or fans to have loyalty to him.

Maybe he just doesn't like Weaver (or McD), but if there is, indeed, a new regime incoming, this would not be a bad thing to do now. Or, it opens up the possibility of other moves via the cap space created.
Key Phrase. "He's never been happy anywhere he's played". That is why I've lost all faith in Grier. Injured players and players with questionable character or personalities. He's never met one he didn't like. Ramsey is just another in a long line of failed trades.

I’d be shocked if Fuk nuts Grier gets anything better than a 3rd or 4th for Ramsey. I can’t remember last time this team had so many needs heading into the draft.

This is a tough one. I don’t mind the idea of dealing Ramsey. He wasn’t as good last season as he was in his limited time in 2023.

But….if we are going to make moves like this…why did we keep McDaniel and Grier? This is another half-measure, like firing the coach and keeping the GM. Except this time, it’s keeping the coach and the GM and firing some players.

“Soft” rebuilding while keeping the coach and the GM is a fool’s errand.

I reiterate something I said last week - I hate everyone involved in running this team. They have no idea what they’re doing.
