Dolphins Are A Playoff Team This Year

I am optimistic. On paper the roster has improved this offseason with what they did in free agency and the draft. Though as others have pointed out the schedule is tougher than last season.

This team has the talent to be a playoff team, but probably more in the wildcard discussion. 9 wins, maybe 10 are possible.
 
We're facing at least the same amount of good QBs (and the good ones we are facing are far better than the ones last year) and we have more questions at DB than last year.

And sorry nick1, but I stopped reading at "no gronk, no problem."

That is a VG question with most players not having been there. I believe it will come down to on the field leadership to win a playoff game.

I don't think anybody does, but honestly, I'd rather him be worse than him be the same or only slightly improved over last year. At least then we could move on faster.

Still have faith that he will improve quite a bit though.

I think some of his sacks is on him for holding it too long, but very few QB's have Marino's quick release. Our receivers should be better with Wallace hopefully being on the same page as Tannehill and the addition of Landry. I just wonder how Lazor coming in affects the offense...it has to get better over the crappy calls Sherman was making.

Last years schedule looked tough in foresight but seemed like we should have won 10 or 11 games in hindsight if we had just added a good tackle or one or two key free agents (which we could have easily afforded). Am I imagining that? Did the schedule soften for good reason? Or maybe we actually were one of the good teams outside of the disaster that was the o-line?

Anyway, I have a really good feeling about Lazor and expect the offense to take off big time as long as Tannehill continues to get better. Special teams has no where to go but up. And defense should be better if one or two of the 2013 draft picks comes out of the shadows.

10-6 should be very doable.

Opinions change, as they very well should. I go by post, not poster. JMO
 
I'm not very optimistic this year. Except for Grimes and Jones our entire secondary is either new or unproven. Finnegan and Delmas might play well but they have to stay healthy. Losing Soliai hurts the run d a lot. We're essentially left hoping that our linebackers and young corners improve in order to not have a worse defense this year, and I am quite skeptical about both.

Except for Pouncey our entire o-line will be new; consisting of two rookies, a below average free agent, and a veteran who just got a big pay day. Not usually a recipe for success. And while I would agree it can't be worse than last year, being better than last year alone might not be good enough to get this offense on track. And even if individually they are far superior than last year, they are starting a new system, it will likely be a rough start regardless.

Our #2 and #3 WRs are coming off knee injuries as well. Hopefully that will not be an issue but we will have to wait and see.

We also have a bunch of new coaches working together for the first time.

I AM excited about Clay and Matthews though. Clay broke out last year and played extremely well. My only worry here is that he will attract more attention from the defense, so we will have to see if he can continue to play at a high level with the extra attention. I am optimistic about him though. I am very high on Matthews this year. While it's true that he has been inconsistent he is entering that WR third year breakout.

Tannehill has steadily improved each year so far. Since even this year will only be his fourth full year playing the QB position at all, I think it's reasonable to assume he will continue to improve. If he can specifically fix his deep ball he may break into the top 10 QBs. The running game should also improve simply because it can't be worse. However, once again, have to ask how much better will it be? Yes we got a better OC for a running game and a solid RB but it all depends on how well that new o-line can run block.

On top of all of that, the dolphins have a rough schedule this year.

I'm not about to say the Dolphins won't be a playoff team, they can be. But they need a lot of things to go right and they need them to go right quickly.

Most don't bother with special teams but, a case can be made for them costing us 2 games. I am excited with some of our picks changing that around this year.

Cool. The Jills beat us twice with a no-name 3rd string QB, "Flucco" best us, and the jests split, so I guess you better adjust those predictions to fit with what happened last year.

Acting like the pats are an easy win without gronk is silly. That's not gronk's team, it's Brady's, and he'll be throwing against one known factor in Grimes and **** linebackers. Sorry, I haven't seen enough out of Taylor or Davis and Finnegan hasn't done anything in 3 years, so I disagree with "no problem."

The ultimate compliment to Clay was Mr Bill game plnning to take him out of the game in our second game. Who woulda thunk it when he was horrible in the 3rd preseason game, when he was playing to replace Keller? If teams continue to do the same, it will open up other options.
