Not a surprise. I thought they might target a blocking tight end to free up Fasano to split out wide and do the pass receiving (and said so in a thread on prospective waiver wire pickups that has since been closed for some reason). I had focused on Lee Smith, also of the Patriots, but the poster evardteach helpfully explained that Yeatman had clearly outperformed Smith and had at times been running with the #1s, which I didn't know.
I think this strategy is the right one. I think they wanted to get an athletic guy to groom, but it turns out those guys all have jobs, unless they're like Brackett in which they're so raw you can't really use them. Hopefully Yeatman will free up Fasano to get more work as a receiver, which is not a job he excels at in my view but he's certainly a lot better at it than Jeron Mastrud.
Thanks for the mention. Most of his work came during goal line situations but was out performing Smith. Smith looks to have been claimed as well by the Bills.
Good to have him. NE has enough TE.
He is big player, raw and will be a work in progress. The best part is that he is a former Patriots player that sure will be able to help gives some tips going into week one. He will be downloaded later today.
