Dolphins cuts thread

the thing with QB's is demand and supply. Not enough good ones to go around. He had a nice preseason and other teams were paying attention.....:(

I think there's more QB's who can make plays through the air than at any time previously in the NFL. What teams DON'T do these days is keep three QB's on a roster after the NFL got rid of the third QB rule after our Pat White mockery. It used to be starter, veteran backup, developmental guy on every roster. Now teams have a hard time deciding what type of backup to carry, resulting in less developmental guys staying with one team for several years while many veteran backups simply don't get jobs despite being capable.

That was a good rule imo

That was a good rule imo

I think quality of play around the league has suffered a bit because of it and wished they would go back. But I think teams are too used to having another guy on the roster who can contribute week in and week out if needed that they wouldn't want it anyway.

I never heard why they did it. All I could figure out was:
1. It was hard for people to understand
2. We in particular were gaming that system by having a guy like Pat White be our second QB and run gadget plays when he clearly wasn't capable of actually playing QB at that point, and he nearly got killed doing so when he was forced into action, was in over his head, and had to be stretchered after his lack of feel for the NFL game led him to receive a hit that knocked him out cold.

PS is where teams stash "developmental QB."

I think Ruddock would be safe there. So yeah, keep 2 on 53

I see 3 TEs and 1 developmental -- Gesicki Smythe Oleary with Myarick PS

I don't see Aikens sticking based on teams alone. Don't recall him seeing S action in preseason but maybe I just missed it.
But if I did miss it he obviously didn't flash...

RB is going to be interesting and IMO based on the staffs insight into who they believe (if any) are safe on PS.
Love Laird but Gaskin and Walton made statements Thursday night. I'm leaning we keep 'em all in this
developmental year. Plus Walton may be suspended before week 1 ???

Hope we can trade a few turds -- Alonso being the biggest.. But I mean for what? R7 - R6 at best. Maybe 2021!

I’d cut deluca he looks awful on this tape but I don’t know what lb you carry over him. I probably carry 6

He plays get you beat level. Maybe you bank on his game catching up with that frame but good luck.

Ford still remains the guy most likely to be picked up if you cut him. Imo

Maybe we carry only 5 LB's and then pick up a LB after all the cuts?

Have to carry lbs for specials. So usually gonna carry some guys that can’t play in your d.

I’m not seeing much with any of them. Might carry Watson but his play speed has to really pick it up. And might not be athletic enough for specials purposes. Looks fringe for that ask even.

Or I might cut him and put him on the p squad look for some other kamikazee type athlete at lb for specials

Many agree with you re Aikens getting cut. However, I don't see it. Flores has been indoctrinated in the Patriots ethos that stresses the importance of Special Teams. In that respect, Walt Aikens is our proven Special Teams leader and he's very good at it. I'm not interested in Walt as a Safety, but to cut him completely, we need a replacement Special Teams captain who knows what he's doing. We have a new Special Teams Coach with Rizzi now in New Orleans and he will want to put his stamp on things but with all the young players who will be out there on the field on Special Teams, you need a clear leader who knows what he's doing.

I think it was a case of both the OL and QB both not being very good

I definitely think the o line play contributed to it. I mean how could it not.

But hey at the end of the day I just go off the tape and I know I’m damn good at it so...

2018 Ryan played a replacement level qb. I don’t know if it was rust from time off or what but the timing was a tick off pretty much all year.

And he doesn’t have a plan b vs pressure. How much of that came from years of having inside and outside immediate pressure I don’t know. Never will. Maybe it was always gonna be that way.

I do know when he went down in 2016 I guess it was he was trending up.
