“I knew coming in what the deal was,” Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan told Dolphins.com's Andy Kent of his rookie campaign in the NFL. “They wanted me to make sure that I was healthy first of all and that I was able to help out the team. So that’s what it was and they wanted to make sure that I was all right. I came in and I did as much as I could with my snaps so I can’t complain. If you’re out there you’re expected to be productive. The way a lot of our games went, teams were running the ball a lot and I don’t really think they wanted probably one of the lightest guys in the defensive line room playing all of those double teams and scoops. I’m a pass rusher.”
Jordan's first year in the league did not see the player Miami jumped from twelfth in last year's Draft to third set the world on fire. In fact, he spent most of the season on the sideline, watching, rather than on the field playing. Jordan payed just 338 defensive snaps this past season, along with contributing on special teams.
For a player the Dolphins aggressively attacked in the Draft to see the field so little frustrated fans. However, Jordan seems to understand his role, and that he has to use this offseason as a chance to get better.
“I’ve gained a lot of strides but I’ve got a lot to work do, obviously,” Jordan continued. “I’ve just got to keep my feet in the dirt and grind it out. I just have to gain the respect of my teammates and my coaches and eventually I’ll be able to get out there and show them what I can do. I could have made more plays when I was out there and I feel like that probably would have helped me out a lot more but this offseason I’ve got to get much better as a player in all aspects. It’s helped me a lot being in the room that I’ve been in these last four or five months and I’ve just got to develop as a player.

Excited about what he'll bring to the defense next season.

I hope he improves tremendously. Not only for the good of the team, but to also show that jump from 12th to 3rd was worth it.

This interview was I think from the monday or tuesday after the season ended.I'm just glad he is completely healed and has a whole off season to bulk up and work on his game instead of rehab.

The kid has a lot of good tools to work with going into next season. One thing that bothered me when he was called-in for pass rushing duties, that Hoops commented on quite a bit, was this:

Besides the speed rush to the outside he doesn't seem to have a counter and didn't even hint at one as the season progressed. I don't know if that was a function of his Shoulder, Lack of Power, Experience or Coaching.

I would further add it seems like most of our Pass Rushers don't have a consistent counter. If my observation is accurate then this is disturbing!

Finally scheme wise is it me or does it seem like we don't employee much "looping" on the D-line? 99% of the time Cam Wake and O.V. will be coming from the edges rarely, if ever, will you see them looping inside to a void created by the Tackles pushing to the outside.

My X's and O's members can articulate what I'm trying to say above. But, observing other teams it seems like we rarely use those kinda schemes...

Yes, a lot of work to do. Like, get in a time machine and give us back our first and second round pick. So, instead of an unused edge rusher, we'd have a blocking TE or RB,..AND leverage in the Brandon Albert trade.

There are so many option with what could have been done with those 2 picks. But just at first glance, to go with the plan Ireland seemed to be going in initially...which was Tavon Austin and Brandon Albert....would have been much better for our 2013 season.

LOL yea not getting those picks back so we better live with it. There was a reason we moved up so cheap, we were much more enthused than any other team about him.
Hope he pans out but I think he will be an ok player at best

Well technically a DE's job is to contain... coming back inside can potentially be disastrous as you might have seen when Green Bay rushed their Nickel back on Kaepernick and he broke his contain on a critical 3rd down. Kaepernick smiled and nodded and easily scampered around the outside for the 1st.

So your counter is to mention Kaepernick? How many Qbs in the league can do what that particular Qb does? Further instead of introducing some level for ingenuity on this team your content with us continuing to use a fraction of our D-lines effectiveness and ability.

I really don't get post like this. Whats the point? There is nothing we can do to get those picks back and none of us know:

1) Whether or not Dion Jordan is going to live up to his draft status
2) If those additional draft picks we used to get him would have yielded anything.

D.Jordan is here right now on our team. Why waste the energy wishing he wasn't? Especially, after 1 season when he's barely played??

yes you do dion...work your rear end off this offseason to develop a counter redirect back inside move and work to get off the snap faster

Whine about our players drafted is another Miami thing..

Your right why whine should anyone whine about 5 straight non winning seasons. We are consistent if nothing else. This team should be applauded for that.

So When John Beck or Ted Ginn were here you never wished that we had went a different direction?
