Dolphins | Ginn could challenge for time at receiver
Fri, 6 Jul 2007 07:45:05 -0700
Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins WR Ted Ginn Jr. could challenge WR Derek Hagan for the team's No. 3 wide receiver spot during training camp.

Ever since I heard Cameron talk baout Ginn only returning punts, I kinda had the feeling he was B.S. the whole thing. Seems like we have alot of talent at the WR position. It is sad cause I would hate to see Booker go, but with the recent praising of Cam I would not count on him leaving anytime soon. I would say the guys who are looking to be out are Campell and Hakim.

Well seeing how Campbell was just released, you could be right.

I hope so. We better not have taken a return specialist with the 9th pick in the draft. I agree with you, Cam has been taking the heat for Ginn by keeping it hush hush and getting everyone fired up at the coach for taking a return man with that 9th pick. If he was praising Ginn for being an excellent WR, and Ginn starts slow out of the gates at wide out, Ginn would take bashing. This way, it's all on the coach and Ginn can be eased into a receiver role.

I don't see why Ginn won't at least challenge for the #3 WR spot. Even if Hagan holds onto it, I think Ginn will find his way into the offense one way or another. I don't think you can resist having Ginn and Chambers on the field at the same time. They can share time in the slot and on the outside while Hagan gives Booker some breathing time. I think Cam is smart enough to know that you have to give someone like Ginn a few touches a game no matter where he may be on the depth chart.

Hopefully we get to see an infusion of youth here with someone like PK Sam or David Sutton make the team while they are not proven you never know who could be the next Marques Colston. To me going with upside which, Sutton has plenty of, is a better option than going with a mediocre at best Vet.

All we hear from Sutton is praise. Every team is looking for the next Marques Colston this year. As for what I hear about sutton is the guy is our tallest reciever, is a physical specimen and runs a 4.3. If the guy impresses as much with the pads as he did at the OTAs. I dont see why he wont crack the roster. He is a Big target so he should QBs looking his way during pre season.

As for Campbell, right after I posted this thread I noticed he was released. Either he did something we will never know off or Mueller and Cam are really trying to get their point across by releasing players who have had past problems with the law.

I hope we didn't take a return specialist with the 9th pick just because the coach likes the family. Either way, if Ginn doesn't fare well from day 1, Cameron and Ginn will likely have their necks in a noose by the fans.

take that all you people that mocked our selection of ginn at #9. we got a slot wr with our top 10 pick. what do you have to say now?

Alot people are saying now Ginn will turn some head, we will see.

I find that suspicion that we took only a kick returner with the 9th overall pick a bit silly to begin with. Did or does anyone seriously believe that Cameron and Mueller actually sat in the room on draft day and thought, 'ok, so its a go on that kick returner out of osu, everyone sure on taking a kick returner over this kid from notre dame?....anyone?....ok good, send it in to the commish, the fins take a kick returner from osu.'

Ginn is a football player, not just some kick returner. Yes he is unpolished as a WR. But there is no way on gods green earth that Cam/Randy thought of him as simply a kick returner who may turn into a decent WR some day. Or if they did then I need to go talk to Heizenga because I can be the GM for the Fins at a lower price without much dropoff.

As long as the opposing team has to consider game planning for Ginn then he is more valuable than just a KR even if he isn't a polished wide receiver yet.

Opens up the game for the other receivers ie. Chambers

Well Blame cameron for putting his foot in his mouth at his press conferance.

Also a guy taken at number nine better be pressing for at least the third WR job.

Best reply I've seen on the subject, I agree 100%.

Oh and if you talk to him I'm in line right behind you for the job.

He probably did handle it wrong. But some have suggested, and I agree, that he is just trying to keep people's expectations down. He knows it wasn't the popular pick so he may be trying to keep the expectation of Ginn's performance as low as he can so that people aren't too hard on him. He isn't as polished as Calvin Johnson as a WR. So he probably realizes he won't be a 1000 yard receiver right away, especially with two veteran starters in front of him.
