Dolphins have 'expectation of mastery' for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

He sure got his teams superbowls oh wait I guess not. All that talent and nothing to show for it. Damn shame it's a team sport right ?
You have no point that’s obvious

And some here can't see a point even when it's explained to them. They need to twist it around so they can argue against it... bye-bye.

Tua might go down as the best QB in the history of the league to never lead his team to a playoff win. But he’s in good company. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trent Green, Y.A. Tittle, Sonny Jurgensen, Don Majkowski, Neil Lomax, Andy Dalton. Lots of good names on there. Tua could be at the top.

That’s not a list you want to be on

I have said same thing about Tua. I doubt he win playoff game As dolphins qb.

He might pull a Tannehill and get in good with a better team and win a playoff game or two as a quality game manager.

I am with you. I think he is better off being mobile. I guess the problem is front office knows tua will be reckless when he is running if he is lighter. They don’t trust him. So they prob said get fat again. They think he was healthy entire season when he was fat. I think that was just luck. Not being able to move well leaves him more exposed. He should be in better shape.

I remember Andy Reid’s first 5 seasons in KC. Missed the playoffs once and won 1 playoff game. I bet KC wished they’d had fired him.

I remember Jimmy Johnson’s first 3 seasons in Dallas. A losing record, no playoff appearances. I bet Dallas wished they’d had fired him.

I remember Sean Payton’s first 3 seasons in New Orleans. 2 losing seasons and one playoff win. I bet the Saints look back and think it was a mistake to keep him.

I remember Dan Reeves first 3 seasons. 1 losing season, one playoff appearance, no postseason wins. Broncos fans wanted him gone. So stupid to keep him.

I remember Bill Belichick’s first 5 seasons as a head coach. 4 losing seasons.. 1 playoff win. Browns fans are sick that he was fired.
Sorry but you are missing the BIG reason. ALL of them had an elite QB at their disposal. Something Gase, Flores, Philbin, Sparano, Parcells and McDaniel didn’t. And thats why it never happened to them. They never turned the page with us. Also all of them had talent all over the team. Something Grier has never achieved. So thinking McDaniel will do it by himself is wishful thinking. Grier is BAD and Tua hasnt shown what Mahomes, Aikman, Brady, Brees and Elway did. You put a top QB with a top manager and the results will look good for any cappable coach. You put Andy Reid with Grier and any middle of the pack QB and even him will look average.

So I was thinking of something. Had tua played on his 5th year would I have franchise tagged him for this year despite my concerns etc. knowing what I know now.

And the answer is yes I would have. Until we have a better option im fine with taking it year to year I just don’t want to be locked into anything and hassled with an albatross qb contract.

I mean if that’s what helps you sleep at night without having to think about a scary 53 million aav without looking into context of the contract than sure go ahead.

It’s about the same money either way though. 5th year and two franchise tags is 110 million over 3 years instead his contract pays him 104 over 3 years but offered us flexibility to field a team in 2024. I mean it was a shitty team but it’d be even worse/ borderline unfieldable had we not saved the 13.5 million the deal brought with how it’s structured.

The difference is the remaining 34 million in dead cap come 2027 however they could have gotten out even earlier had he been cut this offseason prior to march 15th which is when his 2026 became fully guaranteed. Tua’s contract is not the issue, it provided flexibility along with a solid safety value prior to big money starting if needed. Ramsey and Hill contracts are far more of an issue than Tua’s.

I suppose if you want to argue that we don’t know if Tua would get franchise tagged in 2026, I guess that’s valid and we’ll have to wait in see who’s available but wouldn’t count on it. I imagine Miami still wins enough games to put them in the teens, out of qb territory and we’ll see who comes out and doesn’t fade. This years draft wasn’t supposed to be that bad pre college football season with Ward/Sanders/Ewers/Allar/Beck/milroe but then Ewers Allar were both meh and didn’t live up, Allar stayed and Beck/milroe completely sucked so counting on upcoming drafts and trying to predict that far is tough.

Alain poupart and Omar joking around after observing Tua in OTAs that Tua is Fappy like in2023

Folks can continue to believe that Tua does everything possible in the offseason to improve who he is as a Qb mentally and physically, I do not
213 or 215?

According to some on here below is a photo of what a prototypical "top" QB should look like 😂

The fact that you would post such a ridiculous comparison only tells me you have no clue as to why it’s important for Tua to continue to change his ratio and become stronger and quicker.

But you can live in your little world as long as you wish and just continue to be a fan of an underachieving franchise and players that play in it.

That’s the thing, it’s not an albatross of a contract. If you franchise him for this season his cap hit would be roughly the same as it is now and all the contract is doing is gambling on next season. After next season you can get out the contract fairly painlessly.

Letting him play on the 5th and franchising him for this season might have been better if he gets injured again but if he stays healthy, plays 17 games and the Dolphins make the playoffs (which is a possibility) then all that would happen is that he would have got a 4 or 5 year deal and we’d be tied to him till 2028 or 2029.

So for all those wanting rid of Tua, the current contract might actually have been a good option.

Archie Manning, Justin Herbert.

I’m not sure getting stronger and quicker is actually better for Tua because he will try and scramble then. He has that “I’m going to prove everyone wrong” attitude to his toughness and he will put his body in harms way again if he thinks he can scramble.

When he was heavier he knew he couldn’t move as well and the internal clock in his head was forcing him to throw it away. He needs to get back to that internal clock, heavier or lighter. I just don’t trust him to do it if he is lighter.

We’re talking about playing the most important position as a pro athlete, getting fatter is not the answer especially with this player.

Don’t make excuses for the player.

You do remember what that guy looked like the last five games of 2023? You know the one where he stayed healthy

He was a completely in-effective vulnerable qb barely hanging on to his game.

It came to an expected hault real fast.
