Dolphins have never missed on a 1st round QB

But you could argue those picks did have something to do with destroying the franchise. No?
No. The franchise was driven into the ditch during the 2004 season. While drafting those players may not have helped the franchise to rebuild, neither did they set the franchise back any further than the countless other draft busts we've had (for example, everyone drafted in 2006). Tanneyhill may bust, but it won't be the end of the world if he does. And if he does turn out to be a great player, he'll help the team more than a hundred Ronnie Browns and Ted Ginns.

I think it's a little harsh to lump Ronnie Brown in with Ted Ginn. While he didn't pan out as well as we had hoped, he had some pretty good seasons and made a Pro Bowl. The biggest problem with him is he kept getting injured. He was tearing it up in 2007 for a terrible Dolphins team when he got injured.....who knows what his stats would have looked like if he had played the whole season.
You can certainly argue that Brown was a better pick than Ginn, but there is no getting around the fact that Brown offered little value at #2 overall. Some pretty good seasons and 1 Pro Bowl don't equal a player that should be taken where he was. Hell, Tanneyhill was picked at 8 and if his career is no better than Brown's then there will be no escaping the bust label.

Except that it's not true. Rick Norton was the 2nd overall pick by the Dolphins in 1966.

I'm a big fan of the Tannehill pick, don't get me wrong. But this factoid is spreading like wildfire and it just isn't correct.

That was before the joint draft. In the common draft era, it is true.

devilinpgh probably NEVER heard of Rick Norton until reading this thread.

Why would the 66 draft count?! The "AFL" wasn't involved yet until the next year :) Thats like saying the Lions have won 4 Super Bowls (as in counting the past) :p

Overrated when he hasn't even taken a snap? :bobdole: Come on man, now you're just reaching!

I don't have to wait until he takes a pro snap. I can just point to his mediocre senior season.

Oh, I heard of him. I just forgot about him until now. There's a reason most people have.
