Dolphins have scored 96 points this season, 15 more than any other AFC East team...

But it's good considering it's the first 4 weeks of a new offense. Hopefully it rises another 5-7 points by seasons end.

Yes.....and let's not forget that we are running the ball better than we have since the 70's.....that we've had 5 New offensive lineman working together thus far....that by most accounts we've left Alot of points on the field for various reasons as well.

I'd say there is good reason to be positive right now.

But for some....negativity is a way of life.

That puts as at 15th now. If we were still 19.4 we would be 26th. That's a jump of over 1/3 of the league. That is GOOD no matter how negative you want to be.

Also, no the Raiders game isn't an outlier. They are an NFL team like anybody else. We are doing BETTER offensively than last year so be happy about it.

Well usng that logic, I could say "we're in first place, and that's all that counts".

Better the last several years though....not that it's saying much.

No, you couldn't, that would be the bills, for now.

I'm happy that we've finally started putting points on the board, but sorry if I don't get too hyped up about comparisons to other teams in our division. The AFC East is arguably the worst division in the league this year.

Because of the small sample size, the Oakland game skews the numbers. Given our history over the past few years, that game is an anomaly and as we play more games, the positive effect of that anomaly will lessen.

I guess all the other teams that play the Raiders should toss out their scores vs the Raiders too. While were at it we should probably discount the Patriots game too because it was hot outside and the Patriots weren't accustomed to the heat. Every team plays 16 games and they have duds on their schedules , PPG are PPG.

Who said toss out the scores? I said that game skews our results because of the small sample size. If you don't understand that, take a course in statistics.

Some people just need to find negatives. Smh...

It doesn't skew anything. We put up 38 points because we were able to and there would have been more points on the board had the starters played the entire game. We have two 30 point games so far and there will be more.

If you're referring to what I said, it's neither negative nor positive. It's just the reality of the situation. The Oakland game is an outlier for our team given it's recent history, so it skews the results, especially in a small sample. The only way to refute that is to show that the game isn't an outlier. If you or anyone else wants to try to make that case, go ahead, but as that game was the highest scoring game in RT's NFL career, and as it was the highest scoring game the Fins have had in 5 years, I don't see how anyone can make a case for it not being an outlier.

But, blowing out the jetlagged Raiders is the reason for our high point total.

The Raiders weren't jetlagged. They might have suffered from being on a 2 week road trip, but they had a full week to adjust to the time zone, when it really only takes about two days.

The Raiders were not jetlagged. If any team was jetlagged in that game, it was Miami.

Of course it does since we're judging our place in the hierarchy on those numbers. Look at it this way, if the Oakland game was first on our schedule and it ended up the same way, some here would be making the case that we're among the best offenses in the NFL. That's because the sample size would be the smallest possible, therefore the Oakland numbers would provide the most skew. As I said in the previous post, that game was the highest scoring game in RT's NFL career, and that it was the highest scoring game the Fins have had in 5 years. It's an outlier, and outliers skew results.

I don't think either team was jet-lagged. When you travel to England, the clock moves ahead. So for Miami, the 1:00pm EST game felt like a 6:00pm EST game and for the Raiders it felt like a 9:00pm game, 6:00pm Pacific time.

My take on it:

1. We play teams with worse scoring defenses than Oakland every season and haven't put up 38 points in ages. In fact, we play a team with a much worse defense this season (Jacksonville).

2. We've scored 33+ points in 2 out of 4 games. Fluke or no fluke, we haven't scored 33+ points more than twice in a season since 2001, when we were 8th in overall scoring. I'm pretty sure we will do it this year. I won't go back farther than the Wanny era, because if you go back to the days before the illegal contact rule, it's not an apples to apples comparison, and Marino surely would have done it more in today's game.

3. Indianapolis has played the two WORST scoring defenses in the NFL this season. was Indy's ability to torch both of those teams a fluke?

4. We've scored 33 and 38 points this season. No other team in the AFC East has scored 31 points or more in a single game yet.

5. Here are the only other AFC teams that have scored 33 or more points: Baltimore (38), Pittsburgh (37), Indy (44 and 41), San Diego (33), and KC (34 and 41). Indy did it vs Tennessee (#31 scoring defense) and Jacksonville (#32 scoring defense). San Diego did it vs Jacksonville. Balt and Pittsburgh both did it against Carolina.

You can either A) scream 'It was a fluke' at the top of your lungs, or you can B) give the offensive coaches and players credit for scoring a rare number of points in 2 out of 4 games the team has played so far this season.

Also, with the amount of change on the offensive side of the ball, even last year's team doesn't compare much to 2014

You could.....but it's foolish to make sweeping judgements about the team or division this early.

There are real reasons to be positive....and the next month or so will give us a much clearer picture than we have right now.

What I said doesn't take away from the team scoring a rare number of points in two games. What I said was that it statistically skews the average in our favor because of the small sample size. I'm also implying that it's problematic to use the averages as they sit to compare us with other teams because of that skewing. Now if we score 30+ points in 6-8 games, then clearly I'm wrong. We'll see.
