Dolphins lead league in 3rd quarter points

4th qtr is deceptive after last game though - we could have put up points but just killed the clock. I usually do like seeing 2nd and 4th qtr scoring as an idea of how well the game is being managed, but our 4 games havent been a good sample for seeing 4th qtr due to large spreads in multiple games

pointless stat alert! Good to know but will do nothing for us. I rather start the game the way we start the 3rd.

Glad you could contribute to the discussion. NOT!,

Ah, thanks for your input as well. It was more a statement in regard to what JTC said. Too early to be making any judgments but what this tells us is we're making good half time adjustments.

...and right after we have an offensive anomaly.

Anomaly? Maybe but there's your 4 game sample size you're drawing a conclusion from.

Looking back at all 4 3rd quarters and we get the following.

4 of our 8 forced turnovers have come in the 3rd quarter. All 4 have been converted into Touchdowns. One the defense scored and the other 3 left us with a very short field, the defense also registered a safety and special teams returned a kickoff deep that resulted in. FG. So defensive turnovers and special teams have led to 33 of the 49 3rd quarter points.

On the opportunities when offense has started the quarter (Bumpus theory) we have marched for FG's in both NE and Buffalo games. In Oakland game we marched the field but then fumbled into end zone.

So the main theme has been team working together.

Offense doesn't go 3 and out
Defense forces a turnover
Offense turn the turnover into TD. Special teams help field position that leads to FG's and a safety.

If we could just bottle that for 4 quarters

Remember those days when the Miami Dolphins came out of halftime and sleep walked through the 3rd quarter?

Those days seem to be over. Be it the fact that we are behind and have no choice or the halftime adjustments we are tops in 3rd quarter scoring after 4 weeks.

We have scored 49 points in the 3rd quarter and only 47 in all the other 3 quarters. Ouch.

Points per quarter

1st - 10 (2.5 per game) Tied for 27-29
2nd - 27 (6.8 per game) 17th
3rd - 49 (12.2 per game) Tied for 1-2
4th - 10 (2.5 per game) 31st

I would like to see a comparison of points allowed and yardage allowed next to those stats.

Maybe this means the team should play with some urgency from the start and not say "oh ****, we only have 30 minutes left, we should stop ****in' around!"

I would like to see a comparison of points allowed and yardage allowed next to those stats.

Points per quarter

1st - 10 (2.5 per game) Tied for 27-29
2nd - 27 (6.8 per game) 17th
3rd - 49 (12.2 per game) Tied for 1-2
4th - 10 (2.5 per game) 31st

Point allowed per quarter

1st - 23 (5.8 per game) Tied for 20-22
2nd - 27 (6.8 per game) Tied for 14-16
3rd - 21 (5.2 per game) Tied for 16-17
4th - 26 (6.5 per game) 19th

So, looks like we get behind in the 1st quarter by a FG.
Then in the second we play even.
In the 3rd we outscore the opponents by a TD and then give back 4 points in the 4th quarter.

Also all 10 4th quarter points came the 1st game against NE. Since then we have NOT scored in the 4th.

It will take a little time to dig into the yardage per quarter

Passing yardage is pretty much even throughout all 4 quarters. 210, 253, 222 then 217. But passing attempts go up in each quarter. 29, 37. 42 and 47. RT17 passer rating plummets in each quarter. 101, 96, 85 and finally 53 in 4th quarter. So it looks like scoring is mostly the result of the turnovers and then the offense cashing in consistently

It just baffles me how so many supposed "fans" like to jump in and try to douche up a thread...acting like the OP is just pointing out one positive and ignoring negatives, when he clearly stated both.

Go piss on somebody else's cheerios...you saw the title of the thread before you clicked it...so you came in JUST to be a dooshbag...pathetic.

Waller in your own damn misery...quit trying to project it on others.
