Dolphins looking to fill fullback position, with Clay making the move to TE

clay was always going to be a TE for us. i dont understand why people are making this a huge deal. some people liested clay a a FB but he was going to be a hybrid and mostly a pass catching TE type. this is more about bringing in a true fullback than about the TE position.
I think its about getting Clay more touches in a game.

Hate to burst everyones bubble on here, but Fasano is not going anywhere. He is very much a part of the plan and while his numbers might notindicate it, he is one of the better all aroundTEs in the league.

whether its being cut this year or not resigned next year.. i dont see him being around. there is no reason to be paying fasano almost 5 million per year especially with our cap situation. he is just an average tight end and to me, if you are going to even attempt to extend cameron wake during the offseason, getting rid of fasano and opening the door for clay to be the primary tight end would be the most logical move

fasano is a top teir tight end if you take blocking into account as well as catchin ability - the only thing he lacks is raw speed. i dont understand the hate for fasano on this board i really dont - i guess all i can attribute i to is that people dont take the entire game into consideration and more just the flashy side of it.

its not about "the flashy side of it", he is a very good blocker but thats about it. Im not impressed at all with his 400 yards and 4 TD's per game he offers as a receiving threat.

And factoring in his blocking, he is so far away from being a "top tier tight end" in this league.

Top Tier
Gronkowski
Witten
Gates
Vernon Davis
Jimmy Graham

And then you can throw in a handful of guys under that group with any sort of combination of blocking and receiving that dont even come close. Fasano is average OVERALL as a tight end, and i can't find any way to justify him paying him Franchise Tight End money.

The average of the top 5 tight ends contracts (franchise tender for tight ends this year) is around 5 mill... which is what Fasano is due this year, i dont see any way shape or form that he belongs anywhere near those type of dollars.

basically couldnt say anything better myself

i hope they get wake a extension tho right after the damn draft

They are looking to fill the FB position because Lex Hillard signed with the Vikings. No other reason

Agree Fasano is not worth 5M. If they do draft a TE upgrade then they can restructure or cut Fasano and use that money to resign WAKE. Fasano is worth about half of what he is making. the draft may correct that problem.

the draft SHOULD correct that problem.

fasano is about as overrated a player as we have on the roster. plenty of capable TES coming up in the draft we can get to more than justify fasano being gone.

Good. I always liked what I seen from Clay. Don't think I ever seen him drop one.

where did you do that comparison? did you crunch the numbers? Jimmy Grahm - great "flashy" receiver, was targeted a LOT more than most of TE's in the league in the passing game - rarely stayed in to pass block. WItten didnt do well blocking last i checked.

accorindg to pro football focus, guys who actually crunch a ton of numbers - fasano is top 10 most productive in the NFL and he grades out consistently in the top 5-10 in blocking and mid range to a little below average in catching - also has alot to do with not being targeted much. he had 1 dropped pass last season and had some real spectacular ones too.

ahhh fin heaven the place where casual fans who wish they were serious come to play. :)

every tight end you listed is a receiving tight end - thank you for making my point about what you are looking at in grading out a Tight End.

and hes due around 3 mil. this year. his cap hit is in the 4's. where you got 5 from im not sure. people generally think its a good idea to gather info before they speak.

his cap his is 4.375 this year. i dont know where your attitude is coming from but try bringing in some numbers before you start making smart ass remarks about casual fans and serious fans...

how about you link some numbers from PFF that back up fasano as being out as such a productive Tight End but just doesnt get the looks. All i see is is an overpaid tight end on a team with cap issues who had one really good year 4 years ago and 3 forgettable ones to follow it up.

come and play serious fan :)

still looking for the run blocking numbers... but i lets see how you can "crunch some numbers" jersey.

Fasano was 3rd in the league in pass blocking snaps... and 13th in efficiency..
and Witten, that guy who doesnt block so well, is 8th in efficiency

The only thing that is mentioned here that backs up what you said is that amount of opportunities in the receiving game being limited because of how often we asked him to block. Im seriously having a hard time figuring out why putting a dolphins jersey on an average player makes him so good to dolphins fans

Pro football focus is a VERY subjective when having to do with individual ratings
It's just SOMEONES opinion .
