Dolphins Offseason Thread (Mandatory Mini-Camp 6/10 - 6/12)

Malik Washington may hold the key to opening up the entire passing game. If he can make big plays with consistency, defenses might move off Hill and Waddle to start covering him. I don't think there are many slot CB's that can cover Washington, single handedly? He's too fast, but more importantly, he's too shifty as well. Defenses are about to find out the full scale McDaniel offense does exist. Just my opinion.

Shula employed this guy as defensive coordinator from '87 to '95, damn right I blame him for Marino not winning a SB

That guy destroyed the best chances for me to see my team win a SB with an all-world HC coaching an All-World QB. That face gives me nightmares.

I think the combo of Washington & Nick Westbrook-Ikhine will open up a lot of things for the offense. Provided we have some real semblance of a running game of course.

**** run game **** defense Marinos whole tenure

Had some good small receivers, one tight end for a few years worth a damn in Jackson

Rest of that team was filled with jags everywhere

100% agree on all that, but I really believed if Miami had during that time a good to great Defense in at least not allowing scores as frequent, Miami would have been in quite a few SBs, with I hope winning some or most of them .

With a good to great Defense, you put opponents in a deep hole, because as Bill Walsh said, Dan Marino was not a part of an offense, he was an offense all by himself. Put any type of receivers, Dan would find them, and Dan would score quite a huge amount of points with them.

I may be wrong but I think he was the gm too. At least heavily involved or in charge.

But either way how long would it take you to realize I need to give this qb who absolutely deserves a championship a run game and defense around him?

I think Shula was pretty clueless with it. Which I find inexcusable

This is true, and the biggest mark on Shula's resume. He was good friends with
Tom Olivadotti and Shula refused to fire him, instead hoped Marino could just out play, and out score all the failures allowed by Olivadotti's defenses.

Oooof. What's even crazier is what we do know is it's a different hip injury than the one in college. So he's sustained TWO major hip injuries that he hopes to keep healthy.

Ticking....time.....bomb.....

Based on this quote. You could probably rest the offensive line on passing plays:
“Well, I think that's why you have practice, and it starts in practice," I gotta sort of shift my mindset of this isn't just practice where guys can't hit me. You gotta take it into a sense where if this guy's here, get the ball out. And if I'm scrambling and this guy's getting close, not to just hold on to it knowing they can hit me if it was real football. Just throw it away or run and then just stop to signify to slide, if you will. But I think it's the transition and focus of bringing that game-like feel into practice." - Tua

I'm not sure if this has been posted. If so feel free to ignore or delete.

Detailed info on the trek to and through the season.

Indicators of how Shula was truly clueless at personnel evaluation was Eric Kumerow where is relied on the BLESTO ratings (never saw him play).

Then Ken Obrien was drafted ahead of Marino it was reported that he actually asked who is that guy? Whether Obrien was good QB or not, not knowing his name shocked me.

I imagine there was a lot more as well.
O'brien was a D2 QB. Im not surprised he didnt know anything about him back then.
