Dolphins ownership so inept, they can't even fire Ireland

Who really knows what all the inner workings were with this........I think you just need to focus on the end result.

Definitely not something I would obsess over......

I'm sorry, but was I the only one dismayed by the fact that Ireland and the Dolphins "mutually parted ways?"

MUTUAL? Come on. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's gone, but I (and many, many others) wanted his ass fired."

For the love of god you wanted him gone, he's gone and now you are upset over the wording they use!! Get over it. Move on! He isn't here anymore just be happy with that and move on!

If you get fired with one of these contracts, you get paid the buyout. Unless you were fired with cause -- and cruddy drafts and free agent signings doesn't constitute cause.

You quit, you get nothing.

Unless there was negotiation behind the scenes to buy out the remainder of Ireland's contract, this was actually a lot worse for him.

J. David Wannyheimer is correct, AGAIN! To Testtubetimmy, just be thankful that he has gone, the door is shut and the page is turned. There is a certain level of professionalism that Ireland's attorneys and Dawn Aponte and the Dolphin attorneys have to word carefully. The other side note is that while Ireland frustrated us at times by making some big errors, he did try to improve the team. We yearned for better but no GM will ever get 100% success on every draftpick and FA purchase. Final point, when closing the door there is a certain degree of professionalism in trying to stay classy and not drag everyone into the gutter.

Actually what Ross did was far more cold blooded than simply firing him, he forced him to quit and thus voided the final year of the contract.
No there is terminology in contract that prevents changes to the role. You can be sure he got a payout.
Workers can get paid out even if they stay if their role is substantially changed. It is like you are firing "part of the person". It all depends on the contract and exactly the changes being made.

I thought after he was fired the Ireland discussion would end of this board. My god, never seem such a strong obsession for a godam GM.. No you're mad because he wasn't fired the way you wanted him to be fired..Geez..

Hey said what you want about Ireland, he left this team talent wise and cap wise in great shape heading into 2014. Now if we could only get a coach that don't need to read from cue cards..

I could swear half this site is infested with drama filled high school girls.

MUTUAL? Come on. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's gone, but I (and many, many others) wanted his ass fired. It would show backbone, a sense of "this is the bar, you didn't reach it so you're gone" I know, you think it would look bad for a new GM to come in if the owner fired the last one, but that's how this game works. There's nothing wrong with holding Ireland accountable, looking at his record over the last 6 years, and saying "sorry pal, your @$$ is grass"

But instead, after a week of *****ing around, it's a shaking of hands and a fond farewell. Come on, Ross.

This team seriously lacks leadership, starting at the top. We need SOMEONE to step up and lead! It's not gonna be Philbin, who reads his post-game speeches from notecards and spends his time picking up wrappers and telling players to tie their shoes. The only real leadership we had was Sherman who ran the team for Philbin, and his ass got canned. Rightfully so, he never should have been calling the plays. If Philbin was any kind of real coach, he would have taken the play calling away from his OC and did it himself, like Mike McCarthy in Green Bay. But Philbin never called plays before, which is DEFINITELY something I want in the guy "leading" this team. :rolleyes2:

Anyone else think it was bull**** that the owner forced Philbin to fire his mentor but didn't have the cajones to fire his own GM? Dammit I wish I had hope for this team, but I only see more years of :tubes: as long as Ross is the guy signing the checks. No matter what figurehead they put as "GM"

Man, every time you think this forum has reached a new low someone manages to drop it a few notches lower.

You really don't know how the business world works?

Mutually agreeing means nothing else but "forced out" or "made him quite". This becomes a money vs reputation question.
If Ross fires him he may have to pay Ireland extra money for the remainder of the contract and Ireland's reputation has a black dot. So Ross gives him the option to either get fired, take the money and have that black dot on his reputation or officially part ways in a mutual agreement in which Ireland agrees to avoid his remainder of the contract. Ireland may forgo his money but the black dot on the reputation will not linger much longer.

Now I have a surprise for you. Do you know what his recommendation from the Dolphins will be? It won't say "He sucked" or "he was bad". It will say that Jeff Ireland's job performance was satisfactory. In the business world 'satisfactory' is speak for "he sucked".

BUT, now that he is gone we are now arguing how he left?
